1. Mortality and Fertility Rates
2. Global Migration
3. Global Demography

B. INSIGHTS (What new insights or learning did you gain from the topic?)

1. Before reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I thought that

A demographic transition is a unique historical era in which mortality and fertility
rates in a certain country or area decline from high to low levels.

However, reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I now think/ realize that
As Shigeyuki et al. remarked, the vast disparity in life expectancy that has formed
between Japan in the West on the one hand and the rest of the globe on the other is
a noteworthy impact of the demographic shift.

2. Before reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I thought that

Global migration is all about shifting low-wage labor from one country to another,
and it's all about the foreign worker.

However, reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I now think/ realize that
Migration has typically been regulated by "push" reasons such as political
persecution, economic depression, war, and hunger in the home country or "pull"
ones such as a favorable immigration policy, a labor shortage, and linguistic and
cultural similarities in the country of destination (Ritzer, 2015).

3. Before reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I thought that

One of the reasons the country is struggling is due to population increases.

However, reading the material/ understanding the lesson, I now think/ realize that
however, Shigeyuki et al. (2002) claim that population increase has taken a more
dramatic turn.

C. QUESTIONS (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you want
explanation more?)

2. More information on the significance of demographics?
3. What is migration's global impact?
