Locate one source through the library or the web that reports on empirical evidence on human

limitations. Provide a full reference to the source. In one paragraph, summarize what the result of the
research states in terms of a physical human limitation. In a separate paragraph, write your thoughts on
how you think this evidence on human capabilities impacts interactive system design.

The only limits that you have in your life are the ones that you set for yourself, as there is
always way around it. Limitation is a limiting condition; restrictive weakness; lack of capacity or inability
to complete a certain task or achieve a certain goal. If you want to get a high paying job as a developer,
but you don’t have the required skills then that is a limitation to get this role. If someone is asking you as
the artist to design 100 illustrations in 1 week, but you can only do about 30 then that is again limitation.
These are a real limitation that many people face in their lives, but there are other limitations that are
even more dangerous – and these are mental limitations. People often put limits on themselves before
even trying. There is no point for me to apply as I will not get that promotion. Or I don’t think I will be
able to start my business and therefore instead of trying I will stick with my current job. Limitation and
especially mental limitations are holding people back from achieving their goals and making progress in
their life. What is important, however – that you can overcome your limitations by improving yourself –
your skills and your abilities. If you don’t have developer skills and you want to become one then you
can educate yourself and acquire them. If you lack capacity then you can build a team and overcome
that limitation so next time you have a big client job you can easily deal with it. To overcome your
mental limitation you have to build your confidence. Start by setting little goals and achieving them. This
will empower you to set bigger goals and eventually break your limitations.

Through this evidence on human capabilities designers have to recognize critical areas where
the computer has to support human capabilities and augment weaknesses. The computer enhances our
cognitive and perceptual strengths, and counteracts our weaknesses and it is also designed to
accommodate particular human characteristics. Like for example, a number of people have some kind of
physical or mental disability. An interface can block such individuals from using a computer or it can
minimize and even overcome the effect of these disabilities and when people do have to adapt to the
computer, the computer should assist that process.
