Identify three (3) things that you know about Jose Rizal. How did you come to know them?
1. His full name is Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.
2. He was born in Calamba, Laguna.
3. He is the author of the two famous novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
I learned these three facts about Jose Rizal in one of our subjects during junior high school
which is Araling Panlipunan. Also, we read and studied the whole novels, Noli Me Tangere and
El Filibusterismo in our Filipino subject when I was still a grade 10 student.

D2: Looking Back

Please write three interesting things that you remember during the Spanish era. How did you
learn about them?
1. Suez Canal was completed.
2. The Propaganda Movement was created.
3. Jose Rizal formed La Liga Filipina.
These three facts were part of the lessons in our history subject during junior high school.

D3: Inherited Characters

them. But don't forget to remember Rizal's characters.
e.g. Rizal > Father - Self-respect Me > Father - Sporty
Rizal Mine
1. Rizal > Father - Perseverance 1. Me > Father - Understanding
2. Rizal > Mother - Sense of sacrifice 2. Me > Mother - Soft-hearted
3. Rizal > Malay ancestors - Love to travel 3. Me > Father & Mother - Impatient

D4: Rizal’s Philosophy of Education

Please read this short article. Just click this link: Muntingnayon (Links to an external site.)
After reading, please answer this in two to three sentences:
Compare your own philosophy of education to that of Rizal.
Jose Rizal believed in an educational system wherein students not only learn the content of
what they are learning but also its purpose. My philosophy of education is the same as Rizal’s
since I believed that understanding is better than memorizing because if we know the reason
behind a certain concept, we will be able to apply what we have learned on different situations
and circumstances.

D5: Life in Europe

Based on the article, answer this question in 2-3 sentences.
What is your understanding of the word "Propagandist"? Based on what you know about the life
of Rizal, will he become a hero even if he is not wealthy?
A propagandist is a person who persuades other people to believe a certain idea or information
and encourages them in joining an organization. If Jose Rizal was not wealthy during his time, I
believe that he would still be a hero because of his perseverance and courage to change the
situation of the Philippines and fight for the Filipino people.

D6: What I Remember

Since we are done already with our topics in this particular module, please write three (3) things
from our lessons that you remember. You remembered them because they are important.
Provide reason.
1. Jose Rizal wanted to improve the educational system in the Philippines because he believed
that education is the key for the country to be saved from domination.
2. In terms of Rizal’s political view, he said that a country like Philippines should have its own
government for the country to be developed instead of being taken advantage.
3. Studying in Europe enabled Rizal to become more educated that resulted for him to generate
a lot of plans and ideas regarding what he can do to save his country.
These are only some of the important concepts that I remembered throughout the first module.
These only show how Rizal really cared for the Filipinos that he always thought of what he can
do to free the Philippines from slavery.
