KINS 4306 – Internship Journal & log

Weekly Total 32

Overall Total 201

Overview:

This week went by fast which was good. I did have a lot of technical difficulties

which has been incredibly frustrating. My computer was freezing and operating slow

which caused me to move much slower at completing tasks than I would have liked.

There is not much to say about this week as I have spent all of it at my desk skimming

through data. I have to look through data for all 5 hospitals and weed out the ones for

the Johns Creek specifically Spanish and Korean Speakers who are on the second and

fourth floors. My research is narrowed down to these specific populations so that I am

not compiling data for thousands of patients who used the translation services between

January 2021 and now. I have already begun to cross reference some of the entires that

I have weeded out with those that were found on the telephone logs and I have seen

some discrepancies between the two. I noticed that there were some patients recorded

for having a language preference other than English during their stay however, I did not

see them recorded on the on the translation line for receiving the service. I also saw

some records of calls going out on the translation line however, the patient was not

recorded on the list for having a different language preference.

Monday:

Today I arrived at 9 Am. I did not attend huddle today and instead, went straight

to my desk to start on skimming through data. My computer spent most of the day

freezing today so it was not a very productive day unfortunately.

Tuesday:

Today I went to huddle at 9:15 and then went to my desk to continue skimming

through data. Today was a super slow day on the computers even though I switched

computers. I saw an Error that suggested I download a 64-bit version of Microsoft or

upgrade the memory of the computer which is not possible based on how Emory

computer systems are set up. I also called tech support to assist in helping me with the

computer issues I have been having.

Thursday:

Today I went to Huddle at 9:15AM. The hospital is doing a yard sale in one of the

classrooms to raise money which I thought was pretty neat. They also announced that

95% of the hospital employees either have their first vaccination or have filed their

exemptions. Tech support was not able to get to me today however, I was able to print

off some of the entries that fit what I was looking for and cross-reference them with the

interpretation line entries.

Friday: Today I had the day off.
