COURSE / SECTION: CWTS103 / A10
ACTIVITY TITLE: TERM-END ASSESSMENT
CASE STORY TITLE: One’s Commitment

PRE-NSTP (EXPECTATION, NOTION AND IDEA)

Give your thoughts on how you can contribute on one of the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development
Goals
Student’s Answer:

The UN Sustainable Development Goal #3 is one particular goal I want to contribute to. When I was
younger, being a doctor was one of my goals – albeit right now, it isn’t. However, the drive I have in
advocating for good health and well-being still stands. There are major reasons for this, yet I could argue
that as we live in a third-world country, financial is the biggest aspect of it. Nevertheless, I want to
contribute to this goal as I am one that has had a bad experience with my health – both physical and
mental.

As such, my contribution to this goal were goals I have set from before, not only for myself but to my
immediate society as well. The first one is the promotion of good mental health – I always encourage my
friends to take breaks and not push themselves while establishing a decent balance between work and
play. That’s why as of recent, I have been arranging game nights with my classmates to have fun and
establish camaraderie – basically a break from school and life, just a fun night especially during these
trying times where our mental health is at high risk. The second one is the promotion of good diet and
exercise. I had always encouraged people to do exercises a day, however, the number one reason people
are not able to is because of time constraints – especially since after work or school, their energy is
depleted. It’s why I recommend in-between breaks for exercises as well, that way, the time is not lost and
energy is still there. Meanwhile for diet, I always advocated to do a Japanese diet although it might not be
accessible due to resources, but that is just a sentiment – something similar can suffice like a fish diet.

Once again, the SDG deals with good health and well-being. As someone who grew up without having
both, I am an advocate for good physical and mental health. It is of utmost importance to do so in order to
establish a good country – as sickly and weak citizens reflect the strength of the country. Without the
barriers of a country as well, a person should be free from diseases and sickness anyways so that they can
explore the wonders of the world and its opportunities.

POST-NSTP (REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS)

Give your thoughts on the learnings you gained through this course, its relation to your duties as a
citizen and your future actions in fulfilling your commitment to the community.
Student’s Answer:

The UN SDG are goals intended for the improvement and sustainability of countries and citizens
worldwide. Each goal deals with an aspect of human life, such as health, environment, poverty, economy,
equality, wildlife, education, etc. As such, the UN established goals not only for the UN to achieve, but also
serves as guidelines and frameworks for countries, its people and its leaders.

There were quite a few learnings I have picked up from the whole of CWTS103, enough to fill up a whole
essay, so I will be brief with them and list only a few. First, is that teamwork and cooperation is key to
establishing an ideal world. Not only was this established in most of the goals, especially the last one, the
sheer number of targets and goals alone needs for meticulous teamwork in order to achieve – and that
applies not only to citizens, but also inter-countries as well. Second, sustainability is as important as
improvement. In all of my discussion boards and essays, I have emphasized this as well. This is because
merely improvement of living conditions might be short-lived and not accounting for sustainability means
that in the near future, these improvements will either die down or completely fail. And lastly, I had
learned and have been opened up about the situation of the world – as normally I don’t watch the news.
That the world is still in disarray and although we are optimistic about the goals in 2030, likely only a small
part of it can actually be achieved from how it’s looking like.

With these in mind, future actions I have in mind are the following: a.) advocating for the goals one by
one, especially starting with good health and wellbeing as I am well familiar with that one, b.)
incorporating the goals in future artwork I will do especially in the field – as I think using these as
inspiration could not only be a good reference point, but also a good message to send to the viewers and
c.) keeping them in mind as a goal when I graduate – as a lot of time, after graduation, goals you have set
in school are often forgotten due to the tediousness of school. More specifically for these, actions, apart
from artworks, include researching towards some of the goals such as wildlife protection, infrastructure
and good health and well-being, as for material scientists and engineers, the creation of materials that can
not only improve life quality but also not harm the environment and its inhabitants are equally as
important.
