ACTIVITY TITLE: Term-End Essay
CASE STORY TITLE: One’s Commitment (part-2)

PRE-NSTP (EXPECTATION, NOTION AND IDEA)

Give your thoughts on the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals and cite a particular UNSDG
and community concern that it can address where you think Mapua-NSTP students, as a whole, can mainly
contribute in it.
Student’s Answer:

Every good plan that aims to solve a problem must have concrete, achievable, andclear goals that it seeks
to fulfill. The issue of environmental degradation brought about by uncontrolled growth of human society
is no exception. The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals is very much necessary to achieve the goal of
mitigating the negative effects of our species’ development. Having clear-cut metrics by which the
governing bodies of countries can measure is the first and arguably the most important step towards the
goal of sustainable development.

The SDG’s cover a big amount of ground when it comes to societal, political, and environmental issues. In
particular I would like to focus on the 4thSDG which pertains to the goal of “Quality Education”. Currently
our country has consistently performed poorly with respect to other countries when it comes to matters
of education. This is bad as it also negatively affects the quality of the country’s manpower and
brainpower. The NSTP program can help to achieve this goal by going out and doing teaching programs to
less fortunate folk who weren’t able to get proper and necessary education.

There’s a long way to go and very little time. It is no exaggeration to say that we are approaching the point
of no return, some even considering us to be way past it by now. However there might still be a chance to
set things right. With the aid of each other and the set goals of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals,
we can make life for us and the future generations just a little bit more comfortable.

Give your thoughts on the learnings you gained through this course, its relation to your duties as a
citizen and your future actions in fulfilling your commitment to the community.
Student’s Answer:

The UN SDG’s, as I have come to discover, represents the will to survive. To change the way our species do
things to ensure a future in which all living organisms in this planet prospers and lives in a peaceful
coexistence. It is truly a noble goal, a lofty one but most admirable. This then begs the question, how
come people know very little of them?

The answer is fairly simple, most of the efforts that the SDG’s aim to conduct and its effects are largely
unfelt by the general population and combined with the fact that there are very little public discourse
regarding the subject that aims to inform the public of the SDG’s mission and vision. Both of these
problems can be addressed by everyone from the humblest of citizens to the highest seat in the land.

In the case where there is not enough representation of the SDG’s, those in the know must carry the
obligation to spread the word, and more importantly inspire action. By spreading the word and imploring
the public to act in order to help achieve the goals set by the SDG’s, then there is a fighting chance that
the aims of the SDG’s might be achieved after all.
