YEAR EVENT
BEFORE 1800s In North America, Multigrade schools were
the first kind of school in America. The
oneroom schoolhouse was the common
formal education for elementary. It was
before the 1800s that
the single room was organized.
1900s Americans introduces single grade
schooling. The teacher shortage, distance
from
school, lack of services, funds, and school
buildings, are the reasons for the
organization of
Multigrade to aid the necessities of remote
schools or schools from different places.
1918 There were 196,037 one-room schools,
representing 70.8 percent of all public
schools in the United States
1960s - 1970s "open education" and individualized
instruction became influential curriculum
and instructional models. Such models were
commonly implemented with Multigrade
classrooms.
1980s Less than 1,000 of these schools remained
(Muse, Smith, & Barker,(1987). But the
Multigrade classroom persists.
From 19" Century to Present Multi-grade schools exists that hold classes
where one teacher is responsible for pupils
belonging to different age groups, grade
levels, and curricular.

PRESENT There are areas where enrollment is low or

there is a lack of teachers making it
necessary for different grade levels to be
combined. For areas that are isolated and
sparsely populated. geographically
accessible, or deficient in educational
resources, multi-grade classes have been
adopted as a strategy to ensure Education
for All

Refer to the Due Dates. Documents for all assignments deadlines.

Assessment 1
Instruction: The Assessment is given to gather relevant information
about student performance or to determine their interest about the
learning process in this module. You are going to answer the
assessment provided below as the basis
for your instructor’s judgment.

.
Direction:

 Make your own reflection paper on the History and Background of Multigrade
Class. At least 2 paragraphs with 10 sentences each.

A multigrade or multilevel class is one in which three grade levels are taught by a
single teacher in one classroom. This means that children with different skills,
developmental stages, and needs are mixed together in a class and work together
under the supervision of a single instructor. Multigrade, thus, refers to a number of
grades. Multigrade teaching is when a single teacher is responsible for many
grades at the same time. It occurs in all schools with more students than teachers.
The students in each grade are normally the same age, but their ability may vary.
The history of multigrades classes and the current multigrades classes are very
different, because many children in the past were unable to learn because they
lived in the mountains or could not afford to study or travel down to study. A
multigrade or multilevel class is one that has three grade levels in one classroom
and is taught by a single teacher. This means that children of varying talents,
developmental levels, and needs are mixed together in a class and work together
under the supervision of a single teacher.

There are multi-grade schools that have classes where one instructor is in charge
of students from many age groups, grade levels, and curriculum areas. There are
some locations where enrollment is minimal or there are a shortage of teachers,
necessitating the combining of grade levels. Intended for remote and poorly
inhabited locations. Multi-grade courses have been used as a technique to ensure
Education for all, whether they are geographically accessible or lack educational
resources. Pro-social behaviors and expectations are modeled by older students.
They have the opportunity to actually assist younger students in their learning.
Their instruction aids them in clarifying their own understanding. Both younger
and older students' cognitive development and self-esteem are boosted. Many
teachers, administrators, and parents are still unsure if multigrade organization has
a negative impact on student achievement. According to research, being in a
multigrade classroom has no negative impact on academic achievement, social
interactions, or attitudes.

 What is/are the basis of developing Multigrade Class? Discuss and justify your
answer.

Combination classes are classes that have two grade levels in a single classroom and
are taught by the same teacher in our country's educational system. The small number
of students for each grade level, the shortage of teachers, the distance from the
community to the nearest school, and the inadequacy of funds and classrooms are all
factors that contribute to multigrade or multilevel classes. This means that children
with different skills and abilities, developmental levels, and needs are mixed in a class
and work together under the guidance of one teacher. The primary responsibility of a
multigrade teacher is to instruct children by transmitting knowledge rather than
simply following a curriculum. A teacher must be able to help students acquire
abilities while also instilling positive values and attitudes. Multigrade teaching is
when a single teacher is responsible for many grades at the same time. It occurs in all
schools with more students than teachers. More effort must be spent arranging and
planning for instruction in a multigrade classroom. Extra materials and tactics must be
created in order for pupils to be engaged in meaningful ways. This extra coordination
allows the teacher to interact with small groups or individuals while continuing to
focus on other tasks.
