TEST 1

Part 1. Restate the main ideas using your own words (about 200 words):

Bacteria, like all living organisms, change over time in response to the environmental
developments and to the abuse and misuse of antibiotics. Although many bacteria die
when exposed to antibiotics, some develop resistance to the drug’s effects. For
example, 50 years ago the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (a common cause of skin
infections) was very sensitive to penicillin. Over time, strains of Staphylococcus
aureus developed an enzyme able to break down penicillin, making the drug
ineffective. Researchers responded by developing a form of penicillin that the enzyme
could not split, but after a few years the bacteria adapted and became resistant even to
this modified penicillin. Medical researchers continually work to ensure that there are
effective drugs to fight bacteria. Taking antibiotics only when necessary and for the
full prescribed course help to limit the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Part 2. Answer the question below by writing a paragraph of about 200 words:

How important is the prescription insert?

BÀI LÀM
Part 1. Restate the main ideas using your own words (about 200 words):
All types living organisms evolve over time in reaction to environmental, so do bacteria. t
evolved adapted to environmental changes as well as overuse and overuse of antibiotics.
When exposed to antibiotics, most bacteria die. But there are some bacteria that will be
resistant to the drug's effects. For example, 50 years ago there was a species of bacteria
that was a common cause of skin infections, called Staphylococcus aureus. It is very
sensitive to penicillin, so humans use penicillin to treat this bacteria; but over time this
bacteria is resistant to penicillin by producing an enzyme able to break down penicillin,
making the drug ineffective. Researchers replied by producing a penicillin that the
enzyme couldn't break down, but the bacteria adapted and grew resistant to even this
modified penicillin after a few years. Therefore, to ensure the effectiveness of the drug
against this bacteria, humans continually work to find new solutions, to find produce
new drugs that kill staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Because bacteria are constantly
evolving, it makes difficult for humans to fight them; so we need to do something to help
prevent the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We should only be used ntibiotics
when absolutely necessary and appropriate dosage.

Part 2. Answer the question below by writing a paragraph of about 200 words:

A presciption insert or a Patient Package Insert (PPI) is a printout that contains specific
information on a particular presciption drug that is part of the FDA-approved prescription
drug labeling. PPIs are developed by the manufacturer, approved by the FDA, and are
required to be dispensed with specific products or classes of products. All companies

recommend that users read PPIs, because this will help you understand and take medicine
properly. Medications can cause side effects, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis and even
death if you take it indiscriminately.
PPIs usually include: description, clinical pharmacogogy, indications, and usage,
contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse reactions, drug abuse and dependence,
overdosage, dosage and administration, how supplied, additional sections. In short, PPIs
contain a lot of important information about a particular drug, it tells you what you have
to do when using the drug, who should or shouldn’t take it.... But it can't replace a doctor,
you should see a doctor or specialist if you have any problems taking the medication.
