What is M-sand?
What is M-sand:-M-sand is nothing with artificial sand from crushing of rock or granite for construction
purposes in cement or concrete. M sand differs from natural river sand in its physical and numerological
properties. The artificial sand produced by proper machines can be a better substitute for river sand.

The sand must be of proper gradation ( it should have particles from 150 microns to 4.75 mm proper
proportion). Manufacture of the sand process involves three stages, crushing of stones into aggregates
by VSI, then fed to Rotopactor to crush aggregates into sand to required grain size. Screening is done to
eliminate dust particles and Washing of sand eliminate very fine particles present within.

Geological issues

The raw material for the production of manufactured sand of parents mass of rocks. Blasting and
crushing of manufactured sand.

Extracting and blasting

Blasting of rock shells be regraded is the first stage of aggregates. Blasting should consequently be
designed as a part of an integrated size reduction process in the process of production of manufactured
sand.

Aggregate crushing

Manufacture sand is produced by feeding hard stones of varying sizes to primary and secondary
crushers. This is done for reducing the size of stones which are further crushed in vertical shaft impact
(VSI) crusher to reduce the particle size to that of sand.

The VSI crusher by its unique design and action of attrition produced well-shaped fine aggregate
particles that are cubical and angular. The process of attrition also enables the reduction of surface
roughness of the aggregate particles. (What is M-sand)

Aggregate curshing

Screening and sorting

Manufactured sand plants ensure proper grading for better particle size distribution. By washing the
percentage of micro fines is controlled below 15 percent by weight. The washing facility also keeps the
manufactured sand in wet or partially wet conditions. This helps in reducing the water absorption rate
for better workability.

In the processing plant, the incoming material is first mixed with water it is not already mixed as part of
a slurry and is discharged through large screening in the feeder to separate out of the rock. (What is M-

Several screens plated with different hole diameter or openings to separate the particles according to
size. The screen of plates measured up to 10ft. To 28ft.

Air classifying

Dry processing NW developing into a cost-effective and value-adding alternative. The sourcing of water
to operate these plants is becoming increasingly difficult. The treatment and recrimination cast of
Sedimentation ponds have been an expansive but necessary activity. (What is M-sand)

The air screen was designed to use a draught of air as a classification medium allowing large particles of
fall first and be circulated and successively finer material to drop further along with the screen chamber.

Storage and handling

The aggregate reaches the most critical part of the production of the process when it is handled and
stored.

Advantages of manufacture sand

It is well graded in the required proportion

It does not contain an organic and soluble compound that affects the setting time and properties of
cement, Thus the required strength of concrete can be maintained.

It does not have the presence of impurities such as clay, dust, and silt coatings, increase water
requirement as in the case of river sand which impairs the bond between cement paste and aggregate.
Thus, increased the quality and durability of concrete.

M-sand is obtained for specific hard rock using the state of the art international technology, thus the
required property of sand is obtained.

M-sand is cubical in shape and is manufactured using technology like high carbon steel hit a rock and
then Rock on Rock process which is synonymous to that of natural process undergoing in river sand
information.

Modern and imported machines are used to produced M-sand to ensure the required grading zone for
the sand.

Crushed sand can be of coarser and angular texture. This can lead to more water and cement
requirements to achieve the expected workability.

Manufactured sand can contain larger amounts of micro-fine particles than natural sand, This can
affect the strength and workability of the concrete.

Composition of sand
The composition of mineral sand is highly variable, depending on the local rock sources and
conditions.

Limestone, granite, feldspar, chlorite, gypsum, magnetite, basalt, quartz, etc.

Colour of sand

White sand

It’s made of eroded lime stone and may contains coral and sell fragments.

Black sand

Black sand is composed of valconic minerals and lava fragments coral deposits.

Pink sand

A microscopic organism that has a reddish pink shell it responsible for all this colour, colar shell and
calcium are also found in this mix.

Red orange colour

This colour is farmed due to the coating of iron oxide.

White grey colour

This sand is consists of fine rounded grain and it’s well graded.

Light brown colour

It consists of rounded grains. (What is M-sand)

M-sand properties
Should be completely inert.

Grain should be sharp, strong, and angular.

Should not contain any hygroscopic salt.

Should not contain clay and silt 3-4% clay silt is ordinarily permitted for a practical reason.

1. Coral sand – coral sand has several meanings.

2. Glass sand –  this type of sand mainly consists of silicon dioxide.

3. Immature sand – this type of sand composed of the same mineral made of parents’ rock.

4. Gypsum sand – this type of same consists of calcium sulfate dihydrate.

5. Ooid sand-rounded pellets and are also spheroidal coated sedimentary grain.

6. Silica sand – Silica sand is almost pure quartz.

7. Pit sand – obtained by forming pits into the soil.

8. River sand – found at river beds and banks. It has less friction strength because it’s rounded.

9. Sea sand – obtained from the seashore. The color is Light brown.

10. Olivine sand – this type of sand is very unstable. Mainly used for the steel costing sector.

11. Volcano sand – volcanically affected reason have their type of dark-colored sand.

12. Heavy mineral sand – this type of sand there is some high mass molecule is founded.
