LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Convert English to Metric System and Vice Versa
LEARNING OUTCOMES
LO4. Convert English to Metric System and Vice Versa
LEARNING OBJECTIVES (KSA)
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Identify two systems of measurement;
2. Read and locate measurement properly and accurately; and
3. Develop accuracy in measuring.
CONTENT: Two Systems of Measurements
LEARNING RESOURCES
A. Materials
Pictures, Laptop, Powerpoint presentation and Visual Aids
B. Reference
References: Mechanical Drafting, Exploratory Course, Grade 7 & 8
Learner’s Material Pages: pages 58-65

PROCEDURES
Daily Routine
Opening Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
Review of the Past Lesson
1. What is Line?
2. Give some Alphabet of Lines.
Motivation
“The STROOP TEST”
*ACTIVITY
“Measuring Tools Relay”
Game Mechanics: Two groups of 5 will form a line next to the “name card bucket”.
These students will run to the “answer bucket” to find the correct answer (for
example, “ruler”). Once the correct answer has been found, the students will show
the teacher the correct answer. If the answer is correct, the next person in line can
be tagged. The first team to get all of its members back wins.

Questions to be asked:
Was it easy to find the tool or instrument? Why or why not?

*ANALYSIS
Questions to be asked:
1. What are these tools and instruments for?
2. What have you noticed on the marks in each measuring tool?

*ABSTRACTION (Finding Practical Applications of Concepts / Making

Two Systems of Measurement

English System - A system of linear measurement based on standard foot which
originated in ENGLAND.
Metric System – A system of measurement based on the meter. It is also called
as Systems International (S.I) which originated in FRANCE.

MOST COMMONLY USED UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

English System Metric System
Inch (inch) Millimeter (mm)
Foot (ft.) Centimeter (cm)
Yard (yrd.) Meter (M)

Ruler – is the most popular type of measuring tool. It is usually 12 inches or

30 centimeters in length.
In the English system, the inch is divided into 16 graduations and the smallest
graduation is read 1/16.

The basic unit in the Systems International measurement is called the meter.
The meter is divided into 100 centimeters. Each centimeter is divided into 10
millimeters.
*APPLICATION (Developing Mastery / Evaluate Learning)
