Chapter 13 Review Questions:

1. Describe how therapeutic exercise promotes healthy lifestyle.

- Therapeutic exercises are specifically designed to correct problems in which a


patient/client is experiencing at the moment. What it primary focuses on is regaining
certain attributes and mobility such as strength, flexibility and endurance when it
pertains to performance problems of the patient/client. The ultimate goal is for
these types of exercises is to allow the patient/client to achieve maximal movement
and to ensure they regain and improve their complete physical functions.

2. Discuss the similarities and differences between habilitation and rehabilitation.

- Habilitation and Rehabilitation both have the same goal in gaining/regaining certain
skills sets through physical aspects, as well as the mental developmental aspects.
And though they coincide together, they may also have different approaches. With
Habilitation is a process in which it helps patients/clients with innate disabilities,
obesity etc., that to help to improve their quality of life by improving skills that on
individual is learning for the first time. Such as walking, speaking, eating and all the
aspects that allow someone to perform daily tasks, etc. Rehabilitation is
reintroducing aspects of their lives that they once had. Sometimes these things
occur due to critical injuries, postsurgical traumas, athletic injuries, also the elderly.
This process of rehabilitation helps to restore any of those skills they once possessed
which were lost.

3. Identify the common overlaps among the therapeutic exercise professions described
in this chapter.

- The common overlaps would be functions of analysis, restoring/improving physical


activities of individuals daily living, and rebuilding all aspects such as sport functions
and as well as work functions.

4. What skills or attributes are unique to the therapeutic professions presented in this
chapter compared to the other kinesiology professions?

- Having the understanding and experience with the Human Anatomy and Physiology
is a key factor in what skills you need to obtain for therapeutic professions. Knowing
the structures of function is important to accessing patients/clients appropriately.

Another important factor is understanding all aspects of physical disorders. This will
ensure you can focus on offering your patients/clients the best possible quality of
life and taking the appropriate measures too.

5. To make themselves more marketable, many people would obtain multiple


credentials or specializations. Describe some possibilities for dual credentials and
cross training based on the credentials and cross training? What professions not
described in this chapter would also lend themselves to dual credentials?

- Having dule credentials and specializations allows an individual job opportunities


that someone with one credential might night get. What cross training enables them
to have are tools they need as a professional to be proactive with their clients. This
allows them to work more closely with them without having to refer them to other
professionals outside of your expertise. Occupational therapist is an example of
what cross training as they may perform even as a physical therapist as they have
the knowledge and skills to do so. An athletic trainer may also utilize their specialties
to operate and work as a conditioning and strength specialist, as well as a physician’s
assistant.
