Overall Goals:
1. Provide students who already have an understanding of English basics and can deal effectively with familiar
everyday situations, with the vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions necessary for
communicating accurately and fluently in various contexts.
2. Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through various communicative activities focusing
on travel, culture and customs, as well as film, lifestyle, socializing, and personality traits.

Intended Learning Outcomes:


By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Get acquainted with others and discuss different cultures and customs
2. Discuss movie preferences, make arrangements and apologize for being late
3. Leave and take messages, check into a hotel and ask about services
4. Discuss car accidents and driving problems
5. Write two or three paragraphs of personal biography

Unit 1:  Present perfect tense
 Get reacquainted with someone  Past participles of irregular verbs
 Greet a visitor to your country  Using “already”, “yet”, “ever”, “before” and “never”
 Discuss gestures and customs
 Describe an interesting experience

Unit 2:  Present perfect with “for” and “since”


 Apologize for being late  Wants and preferences using “would like” and “would rather”
 Discuss preferences for movie genres
 Describe and recommend movies

Unit 3:  The future with “will”


 Leave and take a message  The real conditional
 Check into a hotel
 Ask about services
 Discuss various forms of accommodation

Unit 4:  Past continuous tense


 Discuss a car accident  Past simple tense
 Describe a car problem  Direct objects with phrasal verbs
 Rent a car
 Discuss good and bad driving
