Reflection: Do you want to be Dr. Jose Rizal in this Modern World? Why or Why not.

José Rizal was a man of intellectual power and artistic talent whom Filipinos honor as their
national hero. He excelled at anything that he put his mind to: medicine, poetry, sketching,
architecture, sociology, and more. Despite little evidence, he was martyred by Spanish colonial
authorities on charges of conspiracy, sedition, and rebellion. JOSE RIZAL is sometimes referred to
as the “first Filipino.”  Though his life was short, he was certainly a Filipino without equal in the
varied gifts and talents that he possessed.  He was thus truly first among equals.  But he was also the
first of his generation to self-consciously claim the term “Filipino” as an identity.  Before that, the
native inhabitants of this country were called “indios,” while “Filipino” was used to designate
Spaniards born in the Philippines. To me, however, Rizal was, more than anything else, the first
Filipino modern.  He did not only subscribe to the power of scientific reason, he also believed in the
basic equality of cultures.  And, for him, this equality applied as well to religion, which is why he
was an early advocate of the freedom of religious belief.  Against the patriarchal norms of feudal
culture, he also thought that women should have the same opportunities as men to develop
themselves.
If I would have the chance to be doctor Jose Rizal in the modern world, I would prefer no, I
won’t. I don't want to be Dr Jose Rizal in this modern world, I would probably keep myself from my
shell and let the authority do their work. In this modern world, people become undisciplined and act
uneducated as they become professional. Now a days, those educated people became the one who
commit mistakes, use their power, biases and indulge to pay the people for the strong connection
with other high profile person. As we evolve, people aiming for freedom and democracy wherein too
much freedom results to severe nation. As today's time being a leader is hard. Making step to
improve nation is a substantial decision, If you really want to help the nation to improve, you should
be ready to face the critics, political and moral issues as well as the status of your life. As they say ''
youths are the future".
