Equipment needed: When participating in this activity you will need a WII gaming system with

remotes, a television, WII Bowling Game, and active participants. (Wheelchairs provided to

those who need them)

Activity Description:

 First insert game into system and create characters for each participant.

 Show participants tutorial on how to operate remote to play bowling. (Simply aim

arrow down lane and hold button as you swing remote forward and release button to release

bowling ball down lane.)

 Play all 10 frames on bowling game and the player with the highest score wins.

Primary social interaction pattern(s) (activity analysis) – WII bowling game is shown to

improve not only cognitive functions but fine motor skills, attention to detail, and good exercise

for the upper body as you must swing remote back and forward to release the bowling ball down
lane in the game. This is a great fun activity for the geriatric population. I used to facilitate this

activity when I worked in Adult Day Healthcare at the Butler VA and the participants not only

loved it but were very competitive.

Adaptation: The WII remote has a string that wraps around the wrist to secure remote from

flying off hand. Also, for those who are wheelchair users they can participate while in a seated

position. Making it not only accessible but very fun for everyone.

Participant: For this activity I chose the geriatric population as that is who I ultimately would

like to work with. Specifically at the Veterans Affair with older veterans. The Coatesville VA is

the closest to me and I hope to work with this population.
