Lesson 1: Project Proposal

Project description

College football has become a big part of American culture and evolved into a billion-dollar
business in the market. Universities put millions of dollars into football programs and pay coaches
enormous amounts of money to win games. Due to this, it is important that coaches make the right
decisions when building their team. Every team has a unique culture that they have built and it is
important that coaches recruit players that fit into that specific culture. I want to design something that
gives a view for what an example of culture could look like for a program. This is a need for the Virginia
Tech football program to present to recruits to learn what it takes to become a true hokie. For this
project, I want to learn how to attract recruits using multimedia programs that will include my own
images and video. I will create the highlight video to assist with the multimedia program because
learners need to experience what the feel like visually as some have never visited Virginia Tech.

By completing this project, I will be developing a greater knowledge of the beneficial use of
photoshoots and hype videos so I can apply this knowledge in your future. I want this product to
enhance Virginia Tech football recruit’s interest in the school and show them what it means to be a
hokie. I will work within various departments of the Virginia Tech football recruiting and video team. I
am going to use my product on the team’s Twitter page. My target audience are the football recruits in
Virginia Tech’s class of 2022. My plan is to shadow the Director of recruiting, and video for Virginia Tech
Football, and learn the mechanics of making a highlight video and attracting recruits.

Specific objectives

1) Develop and edit my own images to display to recruits

2) Create a multimedia program where recruits can view information about Virginia Tech
3) Work with video team to create ultimate season highlights from all football games for recruits to
view.

Materials and methods

1) To develop my project, I will be working with the football video and photography team to create my
videos and images using Adobe applications like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and
Lightroom.
2) I will also be guided by the recruiting department with tactics, using an online source to create my
program, and helped with information that attract recruits
3) I will be using Microsoft word to develop my design materials

Justification

1) In any program or organization, having a culture is very imperative to the success of that program or
organization. It is important for recruits to know if they fit into a program’s identity and culture. I
want to give recruits a realistic feel of what they are walking into when they decide they want to
become a Virginia Tech football player. Not only does it help the recruiting department identify the
players out of their list that will fit best with the program, but it also helps the recruit get a
transparent view of Virginia Tech football.
2) I will have my teammates, coaches, and the video team review my hype video at the end to
determine the accuracy provides a realistic feel that I am seeking. My focus is on the accuracy of the
content since I want the recruits to be able to have a feel of Virginia Tech.

Criteria for evaluation

1) To evaluate my project, I will be using a peer evaluation. Coaches and players on Virginia Tech’s
football team will review the content of my hype video to determine the accuracy of the feeling.
They will be able to analyze my organization, accessibility, and factual information.
