RECOMMENDED OPERATING CONDITIONS

Except as otherwise agreed, in writing, between Rolls-Royce plc and the Operator
(as specified in Appendix 'D' of the Rolls-Royce Engine Warranty) the following
operating conditions are those recommended for all schedule flying. However,
where flight circumstances permit, the engine life will be improved by the use
of conditions below the recommended maximum.

Maximum Climb and Cruise - Pre and Post Mod.1860 Engines

Condition R. P.M. Max. T.G.T. deg.C.

0 Climb and Cruise power:

Sea level to 10,000 feet 14,200 740

Above 10,000 feet 14,200 755

NOTE: Mod.1860 engines have a 50 deg.C. lower T.G.T. than pre-Mod.1860 engines
at similar Climb and Cruise powers. Therefore Max. Climb and Cruise
T.G.T. (when Mod.1860 engines are fitted in aircraft sets) should only be
used if aircraft cruise speed or altitude is of primary importance.

In mixed installation i.e. when pre and post Mod.1860 engines are
installed in the same airframe, pre-Mod.1860 Climb and Cruise T.G.T. should
be used.

NOTE: When Mod.1860 engines are fitted in aircraft sets, use of recommended
Climb and Cruise T.G.T. is necessary to achieve the optimum fuel burn
reduction associated with the Mod.

In mixed installation i.e. when pre and post Mod.1860 engines are
installed in the same airframe, pre-Mod.1860 Climb and Cruise T.G.T. should
be used.

GENERAL

Intermediate Contingency power

This is the maximum dry rating approved for an unrestricted period of use when
an engine has failed or been shut down. A limited amount of running at the
Intermediate Contingency power rating will also be necessary for aircraft
certification. All use of this power must be recorded and reported. This power
rating is not to be used for normal schedule flying.
Sustained operation at Intermediate Contingency power should be avoided. During
extended emergency conditions a reduction of power from the Intermediate
Contingency rating to the Maximum Continuous rating should be made as soon as
possible
3
Dec.87 Section 2
Chapter 2
NOTE: During crew training it is recommended that Maximum Continuous power is
used in preference to the Intermediate Contingency rating.

Maximum Continuous power

This dry power rating is provided for use in emergency conditions not requiring
the full Intermediate Contingency power. A limited amount of running at the
Maximum Continuous power rating will also be necessary for crew training
purposes. This power rating is not to be used for normal schedule flying.

Take-off using water/methanol

The use of water/methanol for Take-off is restricted to ambient air temperatures

between minus 30 deg.C. (subject to any limitations in the Flight Manual) to
I.S.A. plus 35 deg.C. up to a pressure altitude of 5,000 feet, and thereafter
linearly reduces (1 deg.C. per 1,000 feet) to I.S.A. plus 30 deg.C. at
10,000 feet.

Approach

Refer to the Flight Manual for the minimum r.p.m. to be used on approach to
I ensure the required power response to achieve the required climb gradient in the
event of a baulked landing.

Fuel flow charts

The charts contained in Appendix 2 are issued for guidance only to give an
approximation of the fuel flow to be expected under various ambient conditions.
