THE FOREST OF TETEBATU VILLAGE

One day in 1985, there was a village called tetebatu village, a small village in the middle of the
forest. Tetebatu village is rich in natural resources but most residents in the village are poor
because of the difficulty of earning money. The villagers of Tetebatu have to walk 25 km to be
able to earn money in the city. There was an adult man who has a body containing a height of
165 cm and a thin mustache and short hair. He's named Sahlun but more familiarly called Lun.
Sahlun often went to the forest to pick up wood with his younger brother, Sahlan. Sahlan was a
man who had a clean and thin face with a height of 170 cm. The two of them often go to the
forest and also to the city to earn money. One night, they plan to look for valuable wood so they
can sell it at a high price. They had to go deep into the forest to get the expensive wood. Before
going deep into the forest, they asked a person who knew everything in the forest, a person who
had experienced going in and out of the forest. He is papuk mah, the grandfather of the two of
them. This grandfather had long white hair and beard. Sahlun immediately asked papuk mah

"papuk, what should we prepare if we want to go deep into the forest" sahlun said.

"You have to prepare enough food and drink," papuk mah said.

"Is that all we have to prepare for?" said sahlan.

"No, there's something more important than that, you have to be able to keep your word and your
actions," he said.

"Why should it be like that?" said Sahlun.

Papuk mah just smiled and said "just follow my words".

The next day, Sahlan and Sahlun went to sell wood to the market. On the way to the market,
sahlan and sahlun always think of the words papuk mah last night. "Are you sure to go deep into
the forest tomorrow morning, Lun?" Ask Sahlan to sahlun. "Aaaahhhh of course, tomorrow
morning we go straight to the forest”. Arriving at the market, Sahlan asked the person who
bought their wood.

"Sir, do we have to keep our words and actions when we are deep in the forest?" Ask the person
who bought their wood.

"It's not necessary, you are free to do whatever you want when you are in the forest, no one
forbids you because in the forest there are no people," said the person who bought their wood.

"Oohh like that, thank you sir," sahlun said. On the way home from the masbagik market to the
village of Tetebatu, sahlan and sahlun thought of the words of the person who bought their wood.

"The person who was there was right yes, lun" said sahlan to sahlun. "I'm still not sure about the
person who was, I believe more in the words papuk mah," sahlun said.

"Hiiillliiihhh, papuk mah is just kidding, after all there are no people in the forest, no one forbids
us to do anything," sahlan said.

"Yes," sahlun said.

The two of them finally arrived at the tetebatu village, they took a short break and took a nap. In
the afternoon, sahlun went alone to papuk mah house. They talked a lot of things into the night.
Sahlan suddenly came to papuk mah's house and the three of them had dinner there. After dinner,
they then continued their plan to go deep into the forest tomorrow morning. Before sahlun and
sahlan go home to prepare food as their provisions tomorrow, papuk mah said "be careful and
follow my words.”

The sun hadn't risen yet but the two of them were ready to go into the forest, they went deep into
the forest and they both took a break because they felt tired. The sun soon set and the two of
them finally arrived at their destination, the expensive wood was very much in the place. Sahlun
and Sahlan made a simple tent as a place for them to sleep. The sun has set and the moon shines
brightly on cold nights, sahlun and sahlan dinner in the forest accompanied by cold and quiet.

"It turns out that there are no people here, the words of the person who bought our wood turned
out to be true ya lun" said Sahlan.
"Shut up and don't talk too much," sahlun said.

"Hahahahahahaha why? Nobody's here, just relax," sahlan said.

The two of them spoke as usual, but Sahlan suddenly said rudely and threw away his food
because there was a worm in his food.

"Heiiii take care of your words, lan" said sahlun to sahlan.

"Why? Do you still believe papuk mahh’s words haaa?" said sahlan in a high tone.

Sahlun was silent and worried about sahlan who had said a bad word. They both sleep with the
thought that they can expensive wood to sell. Sahlun wakes up in the middle of the night due to
many mosquitoe, sahlun is shocked because sahlan is not near him.

"Sahlan... sahllannnn... Where are you?" cried Sahlun in the middle of the forest.

Suddenly there were 2 people coming towards sahlun, sahlun scared.

"Who's there?" said Sahlun.

It turned out that the 2 people were sahlan and papuk mah. Sahlan looked pale and very
frightened,

"Where are you going, lan?" said sahlun to sahlan.

"I don't know, I suddenly woke up in a very dark place and papuk mah had been beside me,"
sahlan said.

"What exactly is this papuk, why sahlan with papuk and why is papuk suddenly here?" said
Sahlun.

"Calm down, there's nothing" said papuk mah, even though papuk mah knew what was going on.

"I can't possibly let the two of you go deep into the forest, here it's dangerous," papuk mah said.

Papuk mah apparently follows the two of them because in the forest it is very dangerous. Papuk
mah told everything to sahlun and sahlan. Papuk mah also told them why sahlan suddenly
disappeared. Hearing the story of papuk mah, sahlan and sahlun very scared, it turns out sahlan
was brought by a jin because sahlan said a bad word and throw away his food.

"I have warned you to take your word and action," said papuk mah. They both apologized to
papuk mah.

"The jin is still looking for you, lan," said papuk mah. Sahlan was terrified and apologized.

"Calm down, I'll take care of you guys," papuk mah said.

Sahlan and Sahlun fell asleep and woke up during the day.

"Why are we waking up too late," sahlun said.

"where is papuk mah" said sahlan. They rushed to find papuk mah.

"Papuuukkk... Papuukkkk... papukkk...." They both screamed. Unknowingly they look for papuk
mah up to mount rinjani and they see the figure of someone in the Danau Segara Anak.

"Heeiii who is that?," sahlun said. Sahlun and Sahlan ran towards the Danau Segara Anak and it
turned out to be papuk mah. Papuk mah was found by sahlun and sahlan in a state of death on the
shores of Danau Segara Anak. Sahlun and Sahlan cried to see papuk mah who died on the shore
of Danau Segara Anak.

"Maybe this is a punishment for those of us who don't keep our word and actions while in the
forest," sahlun said.

Sahlun cry and said, "It's all my fault, I'm sorry, forest and mountain dwellers, I won't repeat my
mistakes like this."

The two of them apologized and promised that their descendants would not go here again. A few
months after the death of papuk mah, Sahlun and Sahlan told stories and told their descendants
not to go to forests and mountains. Until now, they are forbidden to go to the mountain.
