DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Learning Objectives
During a 45 – minutes learning period. the learners are expected to:
A. The learners are able to define the difference between the two types of
Mixtures.
B. The learners are able to identify if an object/material are Homogeneous
or Heterogeneous mixture.
C. The learners are able to give examples of Homogeneous or
Heterogeneous mixture.

II. Subject Matter

Content skills: After the discussion and Heterogeneous

Mixtures
Values : After the discussion, the students are able
to do the following:

 To properly define the

meaning of mixture
 To describe the two types of
mixtures
 To recognize examples of
Homogeneous and
Heterogeneous Mixtures
 To distinguish and enumerate
the elements present in the
specific mixtures.

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill

Good afternoon students/mentees!

Before we proceed to our lesson, let us first

participate in this activity we have prepared in
order to evaluate your prior knowledge about
the types of mixtures.

Are you all familiar with the Homogeneous and

Yes, Sir !
Heterogeneous Mixture?
Yes, Sir!
So, are you ready to join the activity?

Ok listen to my instructions then. Magtataas ng kamay ang mga

istudyante depende sa kanilang napili
Instruction:
I highly encourage everyone to please open
your cameras if you, can and if you cannot, you
can RAISE YOUR HAND if you know the answer
and wait until the teacher calls you so that you
can open your mic. If you can’t open your mic,
you can type in the char box. None so far Sir!

Is the instruction clear? Are there any

questions?

Ok let’s start.
The students will raise their hands,
Which among the following is Homogeneous turn on their microphones and or
Mixture? type the answer in the chat box
1. Pizza and coffee
2. Soda with Ice and Salt and Water
3. Chocolate chip cookie and Milkshake

Which among the following is a Heterogeneous

Mixture?
4. Water and Sugar and Fruit Salad
5. Sandwich and Juice
6. Air and Oil and Water

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
For further understanding about the
topic , let’s begin our lesson. First, let’s define
the word , mixture. What is the mixture?

2
What is a mixture?

 A mixture is a collection of different

materials.
 A material made up of two or more
different substances which are physically
combined.
 A combination of different qualities,
things, in emotions in which the
component elements are individual
distinct.

Here are some examples of Mixtures. Let’s take

a closer look at it and observe each picture.
A lot material, colors, and stuff.
 What do you think are the things we can
see in each picture? They are both mixture

 What are the similarities of the two It is composed of a lot of different

pictures? things.

Yes , Sir
 What made this a mixture?

Can you follow? Is it clear?

I just also want to share other mixture.

Medicines
Circle and Oval shapes Color white,
This first picture is a mixture of what? blue, pink and yellow.
What shape and colors do you see?

3
Colors

Blue, Violet, Green, Yellow, Orange

While the second picture shows a mixture of

what?

What color do you se from the 2nd picture?

Here are other examples of Mixture:

Mixture of candies Mixture of Building

blocks

This is an illustration if we separate the mixture

of candy.
Yes, Sir!

Mixture Separated
Ok, very well! Let’s now move on. After
defining and examining the mixture. Let’s
Proceed to the 2 types of mixture.

Do you know the 2 types of mixtures?

2. Discussion

What are the two types of Mixture?

Mixture
Heterogeneous Homogeneous

4
Mixture Mixture

 There are 2 types of Mixtures

 Mixture can be further classified as
either Homogeneous or Heterogeneous

What is a Homogeneous Mixture?

 A Homogeneous mixture is a mixture

where the combined components are
uniformly distributed throughout the
mixture in a single phase.
 Homo- means “the same”
 Invisible/you cannot see the different
phase/parts
 Difficult to determine the substances

What is a comprises a coffee?

- It has water
- It has sugar
- It has milk
- It has coffee powder

5
What comprises mango juice?

- It has water
- It has sugar
- It has mango power

What is a Heterogeneous mixture?

 A Heterogeneous mixture is when the

components are not uniformly
distributed or contain more than one
state of matter.
 Hetero- means “Different”
 Visible/you can see the phase/parts
 Easy to determine the substances

What comprises a sandwich?

- It has ham
- It has bread
- It has cheese
- It has vegetables

What comprises a cookie?

6
Yes, Sir!
Yes, Sir!
Yes, Sir!

- It has milk Students type 1

- It has flour
- It has sugar
- It has chocolate chips Lemonade – Homogeneous

Are you still there?

Lugaw – Heterogeneous
Can you follow our discussion?
Halo-halo – Heterogeneous
Is Homogeneous and Heterogeneous clear to
you? Flour and cornstarch – Homogeneous

Ok, then Let’s check if you really know the

difference between the two types of mixtures!
Let’s have short exercise

Type 1 if you are ready.

Listen to my instructions carefully. I will show

you pictures of foods that may be familiar to
all of you.

I will call someone from the class to tell

7
whether the picture shows a Heterogeneous or
Homogeneous Mixture. When you are called,
you can either on your microphone or type the
answer in our chat box.

So let’s now recap the summarize what we

have tackled and learned today. Here are some
of the keywords that we should remember.

Summarization: (Keywords)

 Mixture is a collection of different

materials, made up of two or more
different substances which are physically
combined.
 Mixture can be further classified as
either
Homogeneous or Heterogeneous
mixture

 Homogeneous mixture:

- means “the same”

- Uniformly distributed
- Invisible/you cannot see the
difference phase/parts

 Heterogeneous mixture:

- Means “different”
- Not uniformly distributed
- Visible/you can see the
phase/parts

C. Closure Activities

Comment a Heart emoji if you have learned Students will send heart emotions
something today.

Now to check if you really understand the

lesson let’s have this activity before
proceeding to our short quiz.

Write “HM” if the mixture is Homogeneous and

“HT” if the mixture is Heterogeneous
HT
1. Fruit Salad
HT
2. Milk Shake
8
3. Salt and Water HM

4. Sugar and water HM

5. Milkshake HM

6. Oil and water HT

7. Soda and Ice HT

8. Pansit HT

9. Taho HT

10.Air HM

VI. Evaluation
A. ( Direction for a Cognitive – Based Test )

Science 4 : Mixture; Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures

Instruction: Get a pencil/Ballpen and a piece of paper. Number your paper 1-5 Write
only the correct answer.
