Day 1

Formative Assessment:
Exit ticket: Before students leave class they will have an exit ticket with a concept question.
“How does Newton’s Second Law of Motion differ from his first law of motion? Be
specific.”

Evaluative Criteria:
✓- ✓ ✓+
✓- : Students were able to recall Newton’s First Law of Motion, but couldn’t elaborate on a
difference between that one and the second one.
✓: Students were able to recall Newton’s First Law of Motion, and stated a difference between
that one and the second one, but didn’t elaborate on it.
✓+: Students were able to recall Newton’s First Law of Motion, and stated a clear and concise
difference between that one and the second one. They used vocabulary learned to elaborate on
their answer.

Day 2:

Formative Assessment:
Exit ticket: A 1300 kg car is accelerating up a hill at a speed of 25 miles per hour. Draw the free
body diagram of the car and calculate the net force it takes to go up the hill.

Evaluative Criteria:
*Reinforce the steps learned in class.*
Full/Partial Credit: 3 points.
1 point for a free body diagram with gravitational force and normal force.
½ point for each force done
½ point for writing the equation.
½ point for plugging in the correct values.
*you need to convert miles to meters in this problem for SI units.*
1 point for correct final answer.

Day 3:
Directions: Solve for the unknown for the following word problems.

1. Susie is applying 5N of force as she pushes a 12kg box across a frictionless surface.
At what speed is the box moving as Susie pushes it?

2. A car is pulled with a force of 10,000N. The car's mass is 1267kg.But, the car covers
394.6m in 15 seconds.
(a) What is the expected acceleration of the car from the 10,000N force?

(b) What is the actual acceleration of the car from the observed?

(c) What is the difference in accelerations?
