A REFLECTION ON GCED SUBJECT

(Educ 310 – Management of Curriculum and Instruction)
Name : Benjamin B. Fallado
Professor : Dr. Mardie Bucjan E. Bucjan

As the era of globalization is taking place, the world becomes closer as it

promotes higher demand of global interactions. With this subject, I virtually meet people
from different places with unique skills, talents, and personal advocacies. Hence, as I
step in the higher ladder of education like enrolling in this course, I have boiled down
the several reasons as to why GCED should be integrated into the curriculum, as it
follows: Embodying Global Competence; Empowering the 21st-century Educators and
Institutions; Connect and build Network of People; Coping up in the Technological and
Educational Innovation and Understand and Resolve Global issues
Furthermore, I have understood that Global Citizenship Education (GCED) aims
to empower learners of all ages to assume active roles, both locally and globally, in
building more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies. With a global
citizenship education, young people are able to solve problems, make decisions, think
critically, communicate ideas effectively and work well with others. This not only helps
them personally and educationally, but eventually professionally as well. Thus, a global
education in the classroom is paramount.
This subject indeed featured the vital roles of being global citizens in shaping our
society in the aspect of leadership, global competency and citizenship, intercultural
learning education and holistic volunteerism. Additionally, this suject addressed the
importance of incorporating Global Citizenship Education to the Philippine curriculum
which will guarantee lots of fruitful learning, networking, advocacy and strategic
innovative worldviews.

In relevance, part of understanding the world issues and empowering skills and
knowledge are the salient features I learned as approaches of global citizenship
education. I believe that members of the community and stakeholders across sectors
should move forward towards a single-collective agendum because definitely, global
competence is a core 21st-century skill thus highlighting all community citizens to be
global citizens embodying global competency.
