1. General Information of Reader 720


1.1 Introduction
Reader 720 is a urine chemistry analyzer to which a medical doctor or a
laboratory technician has easy access.
- It carries out up to 720 tests per an hour and 2000 results can be stored in its memory.
- Sample ID may be entered by the keyboard or barcode reader.
- The results may be easily reviewed and any data can be reprinted
- The Reader 720 is to be used with Smart strips 10 plus, manufactured by Smart test.
-Depending on the strip being used it provides tests for 11 parameters (urobilinogen,
glucose, ketones, bilirubin, protein, nitrite, pH, blood,S.G.,leukocytes, ascorbic acid) in
urine.

2. System Installation
2.1 Unpacking
Check that all the items in the list below are present in the package.

2.2 Interfacing System


You can interface Reader 720 to PC through RS232C Cable.
Connect one end of RS232c Cable to COM2.
You also connect barcode reader to COM 1(The baud rate of barcode reader should be
9600 bps.)

3. Functions of Components
3.1 Keyboard
This consists of 16 keys
It is used to input data and set up each function.

1) ENT Key
It is used for starting test. It also completes all entries of patient/sample’s ID numbers
and is used to confirm the data.
2) ESC Key
It is used for termination of each procedure.

3) ◀▶ ▲▼ (Direction) Keys
Direction keys are used for entering patient’s ID No., date, and time....etc.
They are also used for moving to the left, the right, up and down respectively in menu.
4) 0-9 (Numeric) Keys
Numeric keys are used for the execution of each procedure or in-put data.

3.2 LCD
It displays data which show the operation status of the system and the test
results.
The display size is 21 characters x 8 lines.

3.3 Printer
This analyzer prints test results of urine samples. The printer can be on or off. When the
printer is out of paper, a red line will appear. This is when new thermal paper should be
fed to the printer.

3.4 Waste Box


This is a tray for collecting strips after finishing test. When box is full you should empty
it.
- To separate the waste box from the instrument, hold the handle of the box and pull it
to the front.
- To equip the box, push it to the back as below

3.5 Strip Bed (Strip Loader)


Lay one strip at a time at the start zone on the bed and press ENT key. The strip will be
carried by carrier automatically.
- The strip bed should be kept clean at all times.
- When placed on the bed, the strip should be kept within the limit line as shown below.
If not kept within the limit line, reading of strips may be impaired.

4. Short operating instruction


1) Turn on the power switch at the rear of Reader 720.
- System checking will be performed automatically and Standby
mode will be shown.
2) Proceed calibration (Refer to 5.4 System calibration)
- In MediScreen Reader II the calibration is being performed automatically.
3) System Configuration (Refer to 5.5 System Configuration)
- Set up the required environment.
4) Set up the current time. (Refer to5.3 System Clock Set)
5) Enter patient/sample’s ID number. (Refer to 5.7 Registration)
6) Measuring (Refer to 5.8 Measurement)
7) Review a stored test result. (Refer to 5.9 Data Base)

5. How to operate instrument


5.1 System checkup
- Turn the power on.
The start page will be shown as below and the instrument checks the system
automatically.
- If the strip bed or the waste box are not in the right position, a warning message will
show on the display like "Bed", "Waste box".
In that case, place them in the right position and the message will disappear.
-The following is a preparation step for operation.
We call this start page "Standby mode ".

5.2 System Control


In Standby Mode as described in [Fig.5.1] press ESC key twice and
[Fig.5.2] will be shown as below.

5.3 System Clock Set


1) In System control mode press ① key, and the display [Fig.5.3] will be shown as
below.

2) You can move to each item by using▲▼ (up, down) key.
3) You can adjust time by using ◀▶(left, right) key or NUM key.
4) Press ENT key for setting time after adjusting local time.
5) To exit the system Clock Set mode, press ESC key and
you will return to System Control mode.
Note : Do not forget to press ENT key after finishing adjustment of time.

5.4 System Calibration


1) In this system, this procedure is performed automatically when is turned on.
5.5 System Configuration
1) In System control mode press d key and the display
[Fig.5.4] will be shown as below. Then you can set up
the required environment using ▲▼◀▶ keys

- Beep Sound Enable


If you select YES, beep will sound while operating instrument. With NO, it will be
silent. Use ◀▶ keys to select YES or NO.
- Set Baud Rate(PC) [Bps (PC)]
This enables the selection of data transfer speed between the instrument and the PC.
At normal condition 115200 should be selected.
- Set Display Unit [Disp Unit]
You can select the unit of test results between mg and mol.
- Strip Detect Mode [Strip Type]
This is to select strip type.
Using ◀or▶key you can select particular strip among MediscreenTM-4B, 5, 6,7, 8, 9,
10, 11, if you want.
Reading directions can be left or right. Selection is done by pressing "0".
- Select Language
You can choose one language among 5 of English, French, German, Spanish, Italian.
The only change is the name of Pad.
- Printer Enable [Print Enable]
You can have printer on or off by selecting YES or NO . If you select YES ,test results
will be shown both on LCD and printing paper. With NO you get test results only on
LCD.

- Display I/O Count [Disp I/O Cnt]


This is to display on the LCD in large font total in out counter

2) When you finish selecting all conditions, press ESC key.


If there is not any change from the conditions before , you
will return to System Control mode. But If there is any
change, a question to confirm will be shown on the
display.

If more changes are required, press ENT key and you will
go back to System Control mode.

5.6 Printing Paper Loading


To install printing paper on the instrument:
1) Insert a printer lever in the hole of roll paper which is accompanied with the
instrument.

2) Drop and push as in [Fig.5.7] so that the back of paper faces upward.

5.7 Registration
In System Control mode press ③ key and the display [Fig.5.8] will be shown as
below. Use◀,▶ key to move to each item.

1) Enter operator’s ID in part ⓐ and strip lot number in part ⓑ by using numeric keys.
If you don’t need any record about test operator’s ID and strip lot number, you may
skip and leave it blank.
2) Enter patient/sample’s ID in part ⓒ using either the numeric keys or the barcode
reader .
- Press ENT key or UP key. Then you can enter another patient/sample’s ID.
- If you want change an ID, you can go to the ID using up, down key and enter ID
number again.
3) Partⓓ is the serial number of urine samples you are going to test. As you register
patient/sample’s ID numbers, number in part ⓓ increases in order.
4) Part ⓔ is data’s number which will be stored in data base after measurement.
- If IDs are serial numbers, you may register only the first sample’s ID. Then the others
will be numbered in order automatically. In that case next ID will be increasing one by
one from the first number.
- In case you don’t register patient/sample’s ID before test it will be blank in ID.
5) Press ESC key and you will return to System Control mode.

5.8 Measurement
You should start measurement in Standby Mode. you can return to Standby mode
anywhere you are in by pressing ESC key once or twice .
1) Dip a strip into fresh urine sample and take it out immediately.
2) Remove excessive urine by contacting the side of strip on
the material like soft tissue
3) Lay it at the start zone on the strip bed carefully as in [Fig.3.3] .
4) Press ENT key in standby mode (start page).
5) Test will be carried out automatically.
6) Test result will be printed out , shown on the LCD and
automatically saved in the memory. ( Refer to [Fig.5.9]Result Sheet )
- If you have more than 2 urine samples repeat the step 1), 2), 3) continuously.
- Test result comes out in 2 minutes for the first sample and 5 seconds for the next ones
as long as you lay the strip in time.
7) The instrument will stop automatically after finishing test.
8) Press ESC key twice to return to standby mode.

Note:
1) Use only strips manufactured by Orgenics Ltd.
2) Do not touch on the pad strip by hand.
3) Do not use bent strips.
4) Always use a fresh urine sample.
5) Lay only one strip on the strip bed at a time.
6) As with all laboratory tests, definitive diagnostic or therapeutic decisions
should not be based on any single test result or method.

5.9 Data base


1. In System control mode press ④ key and the latest result will be shown as
[Fig.5.10].

2) Enter the number you need to review by using numeric


keys when cursor in part ⓓ is blinking.
3) Press ENT key and you can review the test result.
4) You can also go to the data by using ▲▼ keys.
5) You can print out the result on the display by pressing ENT key.
- ⓐ shows the time of measurement.
- ⓑ shows strip type.
- ⓒ is data’s number saved in data base.
- ⓓ is total input strip number.
- ⓔ is total output strip number.
- Up to 2000 test results can be saved in data base.
When memory is full, all data will be transferred to main PC automatically if PC and
the instrument are connected through RS232c interface cable. The data will be sorted
by it’s tested date in PC. But if they are not connected , the oldest data will be erased
on a‘first in first out’ basis.

5.10 DB Block Control


1. In main menu mode press ⑤ key and the display will be shown as below

2. Up loading Area :
You can send the finished results to PC press numeric keys , ◀▶ and Enter by
RS-232.
3. Printing Area
To print out the results press numeric keys, ◀▶ key and Enter. The results will be
printed out 50 tests at a time.
You can select Up loading mode or Printing mode by using ▲▼key.
If change mode starting # and last # automatically will be changed 0001.
4. If Data Base is empty, an Error message will appear at once at center of screen and
then go back to previous screen.
After all data completely finish, “OK Finish” message will appear .
6. Maintenance of instrument
6.1 Daily check up
1) Separate the strip bed and waste box from the instrument
and wash them in running water.
2) Keep the instrument free of dust at all times.
3) Avoid extreme temperature variations
6.2 Cautions for keeping
1) To prevent electronic shock.
2) Avoid a slope or vibrating place for keeping
3) Avoid any impact when the instrument is moved.
4) Avoid places subject to high temperature, high humidity, direct sunlight and air
containing dusts ,salt, sulfur contents.
6.3 Error, errors!
1) If the strip bed or the waste box is not in the right position , a warning message will
show on the display like "Bed" , "Waste box" , and the instrument will stop
working.
Place them in the right position and restart the instrument by pressing ENT key.
2) A bent strip will cause a jam at Reading Station of the instrument. In that case take
out the strip bed and remove the jammed strips.

3) The beeper will sound if strips more than 200 strips and the instrument stopped if
over 250 strips are detected in the waste container.

4) If the instrument didn’t sense strip on bed, press the “0” key it and will move
forward.

5) Some times the instrument has stopped the measuring cause it has detected 28
empty strips. In order to prevent this situation (In case of no strip on bed, But
instrument is move work.) Press “0” key or “ENT” key when you put on strip in
bed.

Type in “9999” and press “ENT”key at area then erase all data in Data Base.
Also start from 0001 this number after clear.
It can not recover old data So, please do this considerate.

* After Cold reset default strip type is MediScreen 10.

IMPORTANT
1. In order to prevent electric shock ensure the connect earth ground Power Cable.
2. If a fuse is being replaced in the power supply, disconnect the power cable prior to
replacement.
3. In the case of sensed gas smell, unusual noise or mailfunction of the system, stop the
instrument and disconnect the power cable immediately
4. If you think need repair the system, Please contact our skilled technical manpower.
