EC1022 – Electrical Circuits

Guidelines for End of Semester Examination (Online)

Written examination
• Duration: 2 hour and 20 minutes (including uploading time)
• Type: Online open-book
• Alternative submission types: CourseWeb upload link. Details will be published on
the courseweb page.
• Contribution to final examination component: 70%
• Lockdown browser will not be used.

Viva-voce examination
• Viva will be conducted covering any LO of the module.
• Contribution to final examination component: 30%
• Details and the schedule will be informed in due course.

Any submission that doesn’t satisfy the specification given in this document will not be
graded. So carefully read this and prepare yourself to adhere the specifications.

Instructions to the Candidates:


• The exam will be available at https://netexam.sliit.lk under EC1022.
• This paper has Six (6) essay type questions.
• Answer ALL questions.
• Each question does not carry equal marks.
• Marks allocated for each question and sub parts are indicated.
• Expected time to spend for each question is indicated as an assistance to plan your
work.
• Symbols in given equations carry usual meanings.
• You should write you EN number on each answer sheet.
• All pages of your answer sheet should be numbered.
• All photos should be taken using Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jeyluta.timestampcamerafree
ent&hl=en) Android app with resolution set to 1280 × 720 or a closer value.
Network time and the location should be seen in the photos taken.
Above app is available for iPhones too.
• Photos should be clear enough for grading. Responsibility of taking a clear photo
completely lies with the student.

• You can combine the photos taken with Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free into a
pdf, using Image to PDF Converter | Free | Offline or using a scanning app such as
CamScanner.
• Photos combined using CamScanner should be in original appearance without adding
shades or anything distorting the original image. Refer to the images in the Appendix
for samples. Any submission that does not have the original appearance will not be
considered for grading.

• Name your file in the format “<EN number>_Q<n>.pdf”. E.g.: EN21000000_Q1.pdf.


• If the submission is not a pdf file AND/OR if the file name is not in the given
format, it will not be considered for grading.

• All fields mentioned under “Setup guide for Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free”
section below should be there in the timestamp of the photos.
• You have to upload your answers to the current question before moving to the
next question.
• Once moved to the next question, you cannot navigate back to previous questions.
• If there is any issue in uploading your answers to the examination system, you have
to inform the invigilator assigned to you immediately. The invigilator will guide you
on how to submit your answer.
• If the uploading takes time more than 1 min, immediately inform the invigilator
assigned to you, so that he/she will give you an alternative option.

• Any plagiarism or collusion identified in your answers are considered as an


examination offence and will be subjected to punishment.
• There will be a secondary submission link made available after the examination
time for a maximum period of 15 minutes. The link will be available under the
category “End of Semester Examination Details” (where this document is
available).
• Submissions to the secondary submission link will be considered for grading only if
the invigilator has recommended you to submit your answers to the secondary link.
• If you are stuck in a question halfway, upload the content you have done already and
continue to the next question after informing the invigilator. Any updates to the
answer can be uploaded to the secondary submission link.
• For a given question, if there is no submission in NetExams, or the invigilator is not
informed immediately of any uploading issues (technical), but if there is a
submission in the secondary submission link, such responses will not be
considered for grading.
• Photos taken after the end of the exam time period will not be accepted.
• All details and additional instructions will be available under “End of Semester
Examination Details” (where this document is available) of the module courseweb
page.

• Keep your smartphone fully charged and enough amount of data loaded, so that, if in
case there is a power failure, you can use the phone to face the exam.

Setup guide for Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free

• Align the timestamp details on the top-right corner.


o Allow space in your answer sheet for the timestamp details.
• Make sure that you have enabled the location data.
• It is recommended to adjust the resolution to 1280 × 720 or a closer value, so that
sufficient clarity will be there while the file size is smaller.
• Make sure you have selected the Time in above option, so that the early lines are
longer in the timestamp.
• DO NOT change the default font and format of the timestamp. Changing this setting
will be considered as producing forged documents, and will be considered as an
exam offence.
• The time stamp must include the following fields as shown in Figure 1. Not having
sufficient details will also be considered as attempting to produce false
information. Submission will not be graded if all these details are not
available.
o Network time
o Local time
o GPS coordinates
o Location details
• DO NOT add additional watermarks, etc., to the photo. This will distract your
answer and the examiner will not take extra effort to find your work under those.
• Strictly adhere to all the setting as stipulated in Figure 1. Failing to do so is
considered as an attempt to provide forged information.
• A photo taken will look like the one in Figure 2.
