Sports : Linh
1/ What sports are popular in your country?
- Well, I guess in Vietnam right now, it’s football. I think football is considered the king of sports. It’s very
easy to play. All you need is just a ball, a few friends and two goals, which you can always make or create
by marking the ground with, you know, a piece of clothing or bags, for example. And I think it’s a
competitive sport, it can be very enjoyable to watch and play.
2/ Have you ever attended any live sports event?

3/ Do you play sports?

4/ Do you want to try any new sports in the future?

-Well, there are many sports that I would like to have a crack at, but if I have to choose one, that would
be climbing. You know, I have always dreamt of climbing Mount Fuji, which is the highest peak in Japan.
I can’t imagine myself reaching the summit and getting to admire the breathtaking view of the scenery
below. That would be absolutely amazing and I’ll be on top of the world.

2. Reading : Linh
1/ Do you like reading?
-It's such a shame to admit this but I'm not a fan of reading. I know that I may sound dumb for those
who are bookworms but reading doesn't really work on me. I'd rather watch movies or sleep than
spend time reading.I feel quite sleepy looking at the books. especially books that are thick and full of
words
2/ What is your favorite book?
Although I don't like reading books, I like reading comic book. that was part of my childhood. My
favorite book is Doraemon. I think everyone knows these comic. The story only revolves around the
life of nobita and doraemon characters, but it is very attractive to readers and helps me learn a lot of
things.

3. News : Quỳnh Như

1/ Where do you usually get your news ?
- I must say that all my news comes from online sources. Most of my news comes from the
website from my local newspaper, which I read at least once a day. Then I also get a lot of
international news from reddit. There I read articles from worldnews or “ The New York
Times “. I’m really a news addict and I can’t imagine a day without reading the news.
2/ How do most people your age get their news ?
- Most people rely on newspapers and television channels for news. However, a good number of office-
goers also visit online news portals to find out the news updates and recent events. Young people
heavily rely on online newspapers and they prefer to go online and surf around to find out what’s
happening
3/ What kind of news are you most interested in ?
- I’m more interested in foreign cultures. I like to learn about their religions, customs, and the foods they
eat. Occasionally, foreign news interests me, too. In addition, I really enjoy reading news related to
fashion, emerging trends and new products of famous brands.
4/ Do people in your neighborhood still read newspapers ?
- Yes, people in my city love to read the newspaper. In fact, there are so many people in my society who
read almost 2-3 newspapers every day. So, the educated people love to read newspapers so that they
have some content to discuss with their colleagues or neighbours.

4. Travel : Quỳnh Như

1/ Do you like traveling ?
- Yes, I do enjoy travelling a lot because it allows me to learn about different places, different people,
different cultures and different kinds of lifestyles. Besides, it helps me to recuperate from the stress of
my work life as well as the boredom of following the monotonous daily routines of my life.
2/ When was the last time you went on a vacation ?
- I love to visit places, but due to my busy schedule, I am unable to go out on a lot of trips on holidays.
Before the global pandemic started, I visited Dalat with my friends. It’s a lovely city and one of the most
popular tourist destinations in Vietnam. I and my friends decided to spend our holiday there because we
wanted to experience a different part of the country and enjoy the chilly air there.
3/ Do you like to travel alone or in a group ?
- Well, I would prefer travelling with a group of friends or with my family. You know, the more the
merrier. On top of that, there’s always someone who I can talk to and take great photos of me. In
addition, honestly, travelling within a group is safer. when travelling, particularly in unknown places, it
may be dangerous since every town or city has its problems like pick-pockets, criminals,
4/ Do you like a city break or a trip to nature  ?
- Well, I lean towards a trip to nature. Unlike major cities which are always heavily polluted, a trip to
nature such as beaches or forest brings me a much better experience thanks to the fresh atmosphere
and the beauty of nature. You know, I really love sandy beaches with crystal-clear water.

Part 2 ( Mọi người chọn lọc ý nói cũng đc, ai đủ khả năng đọc hết càng tốt) ^^
*: quan trọng.
I like football, whether it is played between two international teams or local teams, as long as the
teams give their best on the field. (The sporting event, I would like to talk about, was a national club
football tournament in my country that takes place every year.) -> Bỏ cũng được
Anyway, the sporting event that took place about 5 years ago was held in Germany, when two of
the best football clubs of my country clashed against each other in a final match of the national
football tournament. The two arch-rival teams had already clashed against each other in the past,
and their number of wins was pretty much the same throughout the history of their clash, especially
in this tournament. So, essentially, nobody really knew which team was favourite to win the final.

(*)But, when the game actually started, all the supporters of both the teams were screaming and
encouraging their respective teams as if they were bound to win. As a supporter, I also wanted my
team to win at all costs.  Anyway, both teams were playing very “rough and tough” football that led
to some unwanted “fouls” and some unfortunate “fistfights”.

(*)The game continued scoreless up until the half time interval, but as the second half of the game
started, the intensity of the game increased.  In the meanwhile, I was getting nervous in the
stadium because my team wasn’t exactly playing up to our expectations. In fact, my team was lucky
to survive a few scoring chances from the opponent team.  Then, suddenly, the ball was passed to
the main “striker” of my favourite team from nowhere, and a goal was scored by my team, leaving
the supporters of my team completely ecstatic and crazy with the feeling of a possible victory. And,
in the end, we were indeed the victorious team.

Part 3
1/ What are the benefits of playing sports?
I think playing sports benefits us both physically and mentally. When you play sports, you are giving
your body time to build muscles, and to burn fat. Therefore, you will be fitter and stronger. Also,
you are giving your body time to relax. That’s why I enjoy working out so much.
2/ Should young children learn to play sports at school?
In my opinion children at an early age should learn to play sports at school. Playing sports is
important for children for a number of reasons. Firstly, children learn social skills that will be
important in all aspects of their life as they grow up. For example, they learn how to communicate
effectively, and develop teamwork skills. In addition, they learn self-discipline through sports, such
as the ability to set goals and achieve difficult tasks.
3/ What parents should do to encourage children to play sports?
There are some ways that parents can encourage their children to play sports. Firstly, be a role
model. Children acquire the greatest information from their parents about how to act, listen, and
behave. As a result, you must become the finest role model you can be! The first step in
encouraging your child to participate in team sports is to just go out there with them. Make it a
point to exercise with your children at least once a week. Secondly, know their limits. To keep your
child interested in team sports, you must ensure that it remains an enjoyable activity rather than
an obligation. While you should promote endurance in athletics, you should also recognize your
child’s boundaries depending on their personality and age group. Don’t become irritated, for
example, if your kindergartener would prefer to run around the court aimlessly than play a team
sport. It’s important to remain flexible and keep a positive attitude even when things don’t go as
you had hoped.

2/ Do you think this news story is reliable?

Part 2:
Well, from my perspective, watching or reading is the best way to expand one’s knowledge
and aim to keep myself updated with the latest happenings across the world. For me, I usually fool
around the Internet or many social media websites to get the latest information. Recently, we all
know that COVID-19 is a big concern all over the world and so do I. Three months ago, when
browsing thanhnien.vn- one of the most well-known online news websites, a news story titled- “
15,000 lose their parents because of Coronavirus in HCM” attracted me. I was shocked and
downhearted while reading this news, COVID-19 is the biggest enemy of children in HCM.

on people
And explain what we can do to
solve the problem
** Follow up questions (Optional)
1/ What have you done
to help with this
problem ?
2/ Will this problem be solved
soon ?
Part2:
Today I’d like to tell you about a pressing environmental issue in my country, Vietnam. It’s air
pollution, especially in big cities where there are large volumes of vehicles. This issue is getting
more serious in recent years and has become one of the top priorities of the Vietnamese
government.
In the case of air pollution in Vietnam, the government has declared a state of alert. Thick fog over
the past few months turned out to be polluted air. The consequence is very alarming: the number
of respiratory cases has rocketed; a growing number of elderly people are complaining of the worse
air they breathe in everyday.
Air pollution can cause long-term effects on humans’ nerves, brain, kidneys, liver and other organs.
Other health issues such as heart disease and lung cancer would be worrying.
In my opinion, there are two steps that can be taken to alleviate this problem.
Firstly, public transport and eco-friendly vehicles should be encouraged, and prices of motorcycles
should be raised to discourage citizens from using them regularly. By doing that, the amount of
smoke coming from vehicles would be greatly reduced.
Secondly, citizens should be provided with guidelines on caring for their health, particularly wearing
masks on a daily basis, rinsing noses and gargling with salt water after being exposed to exhaust
emitted from vehicle fumes.
That’s all I want to say.

Part 3:
1/ Is there any difference between environmental issues now and those in the past?
-I believe that environmental problems are on the rise nowadays. High levels of smoke and dust from
factories and vehicles make the air heavily polluted. Plastic trash everywhere. For example in the
pacific coast, garbage has polluted the coast, fishes eat garbage and die a lot. Wildfires happen more
often because the earth is warming. This has happened in the past as well, but now the severity of
these problems is much greater.
2/ What can governments and individuals do to help the environment?
Obviously, we all have a responsibility to do something to prevent the deterioration of the
environment. The government should educate people and make more rules about recycling or using
plastic bags, encourage planting more trees, and organize environmental organizations. As
individuals, each person should recycle our household waste, donate clothes to charity, go on litter
clean-ups and use reusable shopping bags. I always use cotton bags for my grocery shopping instead
of plastic bags and recycle as much as I can.

3/ Have schools done enough to inform children about environmental problems?

Schools have not really done enough to teach students. Teachers only teach children in theory,
which makes children not aware of the importance of the environment. I think the school should
add extra-curricular activities, considering how to conserve wildlife, plants and flowers. students
can complete projects and work together to learn about recycling and its importance. It is really
important that they learn about this from an early age so that they can grow up with some
awareness of the impact their actions can have.

** Follow up questions (Optional)
1/ Were you also affected by this problem ? 2/
How did you and your parents face this problem
?

Part 2 :
I think we have quite a comprehensive education system, especially the basic education. But it still has
some problems. In my opinion, the major problem is the teaching approaches in Vietnam. The majority
of teachers and students work for exams in schools nowadays in Vietnam. As you know, Vietnam
basically has an exam-oriented education system, with force-feeding approaches dominating. So, some
students are very good at memorizing facts but what they really need is creativity, imagination and
originality. For example, in some good schools, quality teaching is being practiced, which means that the
students are learning to be independent with practical problem-solving skills. For example, the focus of
the teaching is on exams instead of problem-solving, and teachers still use the traditional force-feeding (
nhồi nhét ) method. So, the students are always busy with their endless homework without any time to
play. To solve this problem, I think the education system should add more extracurricular activities so
that students can unleash their creativity. Moreover, the homework assigned is just enough so that
students can also do their own things that they love and have more time to spend with family and
friends.
Part 3 :
1. How has your country's education system changed over the past decades ?
- The education system in my country went through numerous changes over the past decades or so, and
the use of technology in education is the most noteworthy of them all. Most schools and colleges in my
country have modern computer labs these days and teachers take advantage of the technology to
communicate and teach students more efficiently. Besides, the exam and grading systems have been
revamped and more emphasis has been put on developing pupils' soft skills along with their
communication and problem-solving skills.
2. What is the effect of private tutoring on education ?
- Well, there are a wide range of effects of private tutoring on education. The greatest advantage of
private tutoring is the one-on-one attention, the tutor will devise a personalized plan for students'
specific needs and unlike school teachers. Moreover, a tutor will also help the student prepare for
important tests and exams, and learn essential skills. Students must have time management skills such
as how to effectively take notes, how to prioritize assignments and other skills. However, many students
usually take extra classes after school, tutoring takes time. Therefore, it can occupy the time that your
child could spend on doing their homework, participating in extracurricular activities, spend their time
with family and friends, or simply rest.
3. Is private tutoring more important today than it was in the past ?
- Definitely yes, private tutoring is becoming increasingly popular, which is hardly surprising as it is
particularly effective in improving not only a student’s academic grades, but also their practical
understanding of a wide range of subjects. Nowadays, quite a lot of parents spend a lot of money on
hiring tutors to teach their children. Unlike school, where students generally have very little, if any,
choice in regards to who their teachers are, opting for private tuition does allow the student or their
parents to pick a tutor that they feel comfortable with.
