1. Scope:
This document is applicable for S88 (2.1MW) yaw system troubleshooting and correction method for the
following variants of yaw systems.
a) V1 yaw system
b) V3 yaw systems.
a) V1 yaw system – In this type of yaw system top and bottom yaw components having hexagonal caps for
providing pretension to the polyamide pads. Radial yaw components have the threaded bolts and lock nuts
to provide pretension to the polyamide pads. (Refer Photo-1and Photo-2).

2.3 Cause – Metal to metal rubbing between yaw base and gear rim.
3.3 Troubleshooting and Correction – Checking and adjusting the gap between yaw base
and gear rim (as described below).
3.3 Checking and adjusting the gap between yaw base and gear rim:

19). If metal particles observed then it is recommended to clean the yaw system as per procedure 3.1.

3.3.2.7 Remove the all lubrication hoses and locking strips from Lock plate (bottom axial cap).
3.3.2.8 Select the bottom axial caps with respect to less gap marked segment below the top yaw unit and add
extra two bolts at each side of the less gap segment. Tight the selected bolts till it touch to the gear rim,
mark the vertical line on cap with respect to the lock plate and release the caps by 180 degree.
3.3.2.9 Now start tightening top cap one by one by rotating it @ 45 degree. Then proceed for the next round of
45 degree. Tightening shall be started from the outer most top cap from affected segment of yaw
approaching towards centre of segment consequently.
Note: One revolution of threaded plug should give the gap increase of 3mm approximately.
(Threaded plug pitch is 3mm).
3.3.2.10 After carry out the above process recheck and record the gap between the Yaw base and gear rim.
Ensure that minimum requirement gap (1.5mm) is achieved. if gap is not achieved then again carry out
the step no 3.3.2.9 for further rotation of 45 degree or 90 degree based on measured gap.
