The purpose of this project is to identify the harm caused by the air and
sound pollution to the environment. Pollution in simple words can be
explained by, the presence of a foreign object in the environment which has
harmful effect, we as a society have to ensure that all the pollution levels
are maintained to the minimum. In today’s world, pollution is the biggest
concern, pollution has a lot of harmful effects on the wellbeing of the
people.
Literature Survey
“Anjaiah Guthi “Efficient Noise and Air Pollution Monitoring System” (2020):
In this paper, a solution for monitoring the noise and air pollution levels in industrial
environment or any other area of interest using wireless embedded computing system
is proposed. The hardware is tested for two or three parameters like noise, CI2 and
radiation levels.
“Arushi Singh “IOT Based Air and Noise Pollution Monitoring System” (2019):
In this paper, the air and sound pollution monitoring system monitors air and noise
pollution using a mobile application. It shows the digital value of air and sound pollution
and user can analyze it with a graph.
“Palaghat Yaswanth Sai “IOT Based Air Pollution Monitoring System” (2020):
This paper deals with the air value in ppm as well as sound value in decibel over a web
using internet and with the help of Wi-Fi module and trigger an alarm when the air
quality goes down further a certain level, means when there are sufficient amount of
harmful gases are present in the atmosphere like C02, smoke, alcohol, benzene and
NH3.
Ashvini Kale “Air Pollution Monitoring System Using Mobile GPRS Sensors”
(2019):
This paper contains brief introduction to vehicular pollution. The proposed system
consists of a transmitter and receiver part. The transmitter part is Integrated with

single- chip microcontroller, air pollution sensors array, a General Packet Radio Service
Modem (GPRS Modem), and a Global Positioning System Module (GPS-Module) for
transmitting the information.
Dr. Siva yellampalli “IOT Based Air and Noise Pollution Monitoring in Urban and
Rural Areas” (2017):
This paper deal with using sensors and Cloud/Server to design an efficient and remote
system to monitor the level of various pollutants causing pollution and to minimize its
effect.
Problem Definition
Air and sound pollution are a growing issue these days. It is necessary to
monitor air quality and keep it under control for a better future and healthy
living for all. In today’s world, pollution is the biggest concern, pollution
has a lot of harmful effects on the wellbeing of the people. As shown in
Table 1.1 and Figure 1.2 both first and second tier cities in Indian perform
extremely poorly in cases of Air and Noise pollution India tops the world in
pollution related deaths, accounting to 2.5 million deaths of the total 9
million worldwide.
Our project is a small step to this big initiative to ensure that pollution
stays under control. This project helps in detecting the major gases in air
and the decibel levels in the surrounding environment. It is the need of the
hour to monitor air quality and keep it under control for a better future and
healthy living for all.

Circuit Diagram:
Block Diagram:
11
● It is a combination of many waterfall models. Here, the main project will be
divided into multiple modules and each module will be developed separately.
● Finally, all the developed modules will be integrated with other modules.
Gas Sensor:
Sensitive material of MQ135 gas sensor is SnO2, which has lower
conductivity in clean air. When the target combustible gas exists, the
sensor’s conductivity is higher along with the gas concentration rising.
MQ135 gas sensor has high sensitivity to A Sulphide and Benzene steam,
also sensitive to smoke and other harmful gases. It is with low cost.
Specification of MQ135:
● Operating Voltage: 5V DC.
● Type: Analog & Digital.
● Pin: 1-O/P, 2-GND, 3-Vcc
● Detecting Type: Air Quality.
● Sensitivity to Ammonia, Sulphide and Benzene steam.
● Detecting Range: 100-1000ppm.
12
Feature:
● Good sensitivity to Harmful gases in wide range.
● High sensitivity to Ammonia, Sulphide and benzene.
● Long life and low cost.
● Simple drive.
Sound Sensor:
The sound sensor module provides an easy way to detect sound and is
generally used for detecting sound intensity. This module can be used for
security, switch, and monitoring applications. Its accuracy can be easily
adjusted for the convenience of usage. It uses a microphone which supplies
the input to an amplifier, peak detector and buffer. When the sensor detects
a sound, it processes an output signal voltage which is sent to a
microcontroller then performs necessary processing.
13
Pin Configuration:
● VCC: 3.3V-5V DC
● GND: ground
● DO: digital output
● AO: analog output
Results
14
If air quality is less than 400 ppm then it is fresh air and if it is between 400
ppm to 550 ppm then it is poor air quality and at last if it is greater than
600 ppm then it is danger the area is very much polluted and the buzzer
will beep.
Advantages:
● Sensor is easily available.
● Detecting a wide range of gases, carbon dioxide, carbon mono-oxide,
sulphur dioxide, smoke etc. and also detect noise.
● Simple, compact and easy to handle.
● Sensors have long life time and less cost.
15
Disadvantages:
● Humidity should be less than 95% and sound should be less than 85db.
● Accurate measure of containing gases cannot be detected in ppm and
sound in db.
Future Scope:
This project is useful for smart city development to monitor air and sound
pollution.
We can monitor the pollution to control the Air and sound pollution at any
place of the world.
16
Conclusion:
By using this project each and every variation of air and sound level is
monitoring through internet and thus nearby people can be informed in
time. Thus, lots of lives can be saved from unpleasant scenarios. Air and
sound pollution monitoring system will overcome all the problems related
to the environment.
This model can be further expanded to monitor the developing cities and
industrial zones for pollution monitoring.
