TITLE :THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIQUID ON LIQUID
MELTING POINT TIME.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Liquid is s a sample of matter that conforms to the shape of the

container in which it is held and acquires a defined surface and liquid is a fluid. The
term liquid can also refer to a state or condition of matter that possesses this property.
Other than that, liquids cant be compressed and also called as condensed matter.
Liquid can flow, assume the shape of a container, and if it placed in a sealed
container, it will distribute applied pressure evenly to every surface in the container.
When liquid is placed in a bag, it can be squeezed into any shape. Liquid also can be
freeze to the ice cubes which the atom in liquid is into changing state and its affect the
liquid to change into solid. Different types of liquids can turn into solid when the
temperature of the liquids decrease.
Next, the liquids when it turns into solid and the atoms or molecules of
matter in the liquid state are compressed as tightly as those of matter in the solid state,
but the atoms or molecules in a liquid can move freely among each other. In this
experiment we will identify different type of liquids which turn into solid that we
called ice cube and determine which liquids melt faster and what changes to the ice
cube and what things that influence the melt phase of the liquids in different rates.

2.0 HYPOTHESIS

Hypothesis of this experiment is: If type of the liquid is different then the time taken
for the liquid to melt is different.

3.0 VARIABLES:-
a) Dependent variable: Types of the liquid.
b) Independent variable: Time taken for the liquid to melt
c) Constant: Room temperature.
4.0 PROCEDURES

1) The apparatus and materials for this experiment are prepared which is different
types of liquids included (plain water, milk, sugar syrup, salt water, and powdered
water).
2)The five types of liquid have been poured into ice cubes mold and let into freezer.
3)The liquids in the ice mold been freezed (from liquids to solid)
4)The timer set and the liquids been observed for the melting point.
5)The data and results are recorded.

5.0 RESULTS/DATA

Types of Liquids First trial (min/sec) Second Trial (min/sec)

1) Salt water 17 minutes 9 seconds 18 minutes 20 seconds
2) Sugar water 13 minutes 32 seconds 16 minutes 30 seconds
3) Milk 18 minutes 56 seconds 19 minutes 50 seconds
4) Flour liquid 21 minutes 55 seconds 23 minutes 20 seconds
5) Plain water 23 minutes 40 seconds 25 minutes

6.0 DISCUSSION
This study was performed to test the effect of different type of liquid that affect the
time of their melting point. From the experiment in trial one, the fastest melt is sugar
liquid and the last is plain water. From the experiment in second trial, the fastest
liquid melts is also sugar liquid and the last melts is plain water.

7.0 CONCLUSSION

The presence of impurities in a substance results in a lower melting point due to a

process called melting point depression. Melting point depression occurs due to the
nature of a material's solid state. Most solids, such as ice, form as crystalline lattices
of repeating ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces
that create a strong, stable structure. The solid must be heated to a certain temperature
in order for this structure to be disrupted and for the solid to melt. However, the
presence of impurities weakens the lattice, making it less stable. As a result, the
compound melts at a lower temperature.
