Exercise 1 – Loading REVIT sample files for NAVISWORKS
Step - 1 – Load sample file from Revit. Click on File < Open < Sample files.

Step - 2 – Choose the desired architectural file (In this case, rac_advanced_sample_project.rvt) < Click
Open.
Step - 3 – Save the file somewhere so as not to edit the sample file by clicking on File < Save As < Project.

Step - 4 – Similarly open structural file and MEP file for same project whose architectural file was opened
earlier from Step – 1 path having name starting from rst and rme respectively followed by same project
name.
Step - 5 – Save the structural and MEP files as done in Step – 3.
Exercise 2 – Converting files into NAVISWORKS cache files
Step - 1 – Select the file < Go to Add Ins < External Tools < Navisworks Switchback.
Step - 2 –Again go to Add Ins < External Tools < Navisworks to save it as .nwc file.

Step - 3 – Following window appears < Click on Navisworks settings.


Step - 4 – Window appears < Click on Model < Performance < make following settings < Press Ok.

Step - 5 – Save the file and repeat the steps for Structural and MEP files also.

Exercise 3 – Setting up project in Navisworks


Step - 1 – Open NAVISWORKS Manage < Following window appears < Click on Append < Append.
Step - 2 – Following window appears < Select the file < Press Open.

Step - 3 – File is opened.


Step - 4 – Repeat the above step for Structural and MEP file also < all the files are incorporated in one view
only, showing whole building including Architectural, Structural and MEP.
Exercise 4 – Walk option
Step - 1 – To take a walk through of the project, Select Walk from Navigation bar < Walk.
Step - 2 – Footprints appear on the screen < Drag the mouse in which direction you want to move.

Step - 3 – To view from third person perspective, Select Third Person from walk option.

Step - 4 – Third Person Perspective appears.


Exercise 5 – Draw
Step - 1 – Go to Review < Draw < Select desired shape to draw.

Step - 2 – Drag where shape is to be drawn < Shape is drawn.


Exercise 6 – Write Text
Step - 1 – To enter text < Review < Select Text option.

Step - 2 – Following window appears < Type the desired text < Press Ok.
Step - 3 – Text is displayed.

Exercise 7 – Measure
Step - 1 – Go to Review < Measure < Select the desired option.
Step - 2 – Select the points and following information is displayed.

Exercise 8 – Clash Detection


Step - 1 – Go to Home < Clash Detective.

Step - 2 – Following window appears < Click Add Test.

Step - 3 – Following window appears < Name the test.


Step - 4 – Select the options from Section A and Section B < Click on Run Test.

Step - 5 – Clashes appear if any and we can click on the respective clash and see where the clashes are there.
Step - 6 – To generate a report of the clashes < Click on report on the window < Make selections
accordingly < Click Write Report.

Step - 7 – Open the file for report where ever it is saved < It looks like this giving all the information about
the clashes.
Step - 8 – Clashes can be assigned so that they can be resolved by clicking on Assign in the window.

Step - 9 – Following window appears < Type accordingly < Press Ok.
Step - 10 – To review clash in Revit, Select the clash < Select the component < Right click < Switchback. It
will take you to Revit and show the highlighted component experiencing clash.

Exercise 9 – Simulate the schedule


Step - 1 – Go to Home < Timeliner.

Step - 2 – Following window appears. If we don’t have the schedule, we can create it here < Add a task <
Fill in the information

Step - 3 – For Attached column, we have to select the component by clicking on it.
Step - 4 – To select all the components of same function (for example – Piles) < Select one pile < Home <
Select Same < from the dropdown, select desired option.

Step – 5 – Select all the components on same function which need to be attached < From Timeliner
window, select Attach < Attach Current Selection.
Step – 6 – For Total cost column, from timeliner window, Select Column option < dropdown appears <
Select Choose Column.

Step – 7 – Following window appears. Choose the desired options to be incorporated < press Ok.
Step – 8 – Write the costs, and total cost is displayed in total cost column.

Step – 9 – Write all the tasks < From Timeliner window, Select Simulate.
Step – 10 – Following window appears < Click on Play < Simulation starts playing according to the
timeline.
Exercise 10 – Quantification
Step - 1 – Go to Home < Quantification.
Step - 2 – Following windows appear < Click on Project Setup.

Step - 3 – Following window appears < Select the desired catalog < click Next.
Step - 4 – Following window appears < Selected desired measuring units < Click Next.

Step - 5 – Following window appears < Select specifications < Click Next < Click Finish.
Step - 6 – Go to Home < Click on Selection Tree.

Step - 7 – Following window appears < Select the project from the window.

Step - 8 – Keep the mouse pointer on the building < Right click < Select Quantification < Take off to new
catalog item.
Step - 9 – All the things are imported in Quantification Workbook.

Step - 10 – Any component can be clicked and its information will be available on right panes.
Step - 11 – Data can be exported to excel as shown in the figure below.
Step - 12 – Following excel file is made containing all the specifications of the components.
