Lesson 1. Patterns and Numbers in Nature

Highlights

A. What are the three (3) types of pattern?

The Golden Triangle, The Logarithmic Spirals, and the Golden Rectangle

B. What is Golden ratio and what is its estimated value?

The common value, which in this case is an irrational constant, is what is

considered as the Golden Ratio, denoted by 𝜙 (phi). It is approximately equal to
1.618

C. What is a fractal?

Fractal, in mathematics, any of a class of complex geometric shapes that

commonly have “fractional dimension,” a concept first introduced by the
mathematician Felix Hausdorff in 1918. Fractals are distinct from the simple
figures of classical, or Euclidean, geometry—the square, the circle, the sphere,
and so forth.

It is any of various extremely irregular curves or shapes for which any suitably
chosen part is similar in shape to a given larger or smaller part when magnified
or reduced to the same size

Lesson 2. Systemizing Patterns using Mathematics

Highlights

A. Describe a Logarithmic Spiral.

The golden triangle is used to form a logarithmic spiral (also known equiangular
spiral). Bisecting the base angles, the new point creates another golden triangle.
Repeat the bisection process creating an infinite number of golden triangles. The
logarithmic spiral is drawn through the vertices.

B. Describe a Golden Spiral.

A Golden Spiral can be derived from a Golden Rectangle, a specific type of

rectangle whose ratio of long side to short side is approximately 1.618034 to 1. To
create this special type of spiral, simply partition off a square from the Golden
Rectangle in such a way that its sides are equal to the short side of the rectangle.

C. Enumerate and describe five (5) of the 17 equations that changed the world.

The Wave Equation: 𝝏 𝟐𝒖 𝝏𝒕 𝟐 = 𝒄 𝟐𝛁 𝟐𝒖

The Fourier Transform:  ∞− ∞ 𝒆 −𝟐𝝅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒇 𝒕 𝒅𝒕 = 𝑭(𝒔)

Relativity 𝑬 = 𝒎𝒄 𝟐

Lesson 3. Systemizing Functionality of Mathematics

Highlights

How is mathematics utilized in the following areas?

A. Pharmaceutical Field

Mathematicians work on clinical data about the effectiveness or dangers of new

drugs. Pure scientific research in chemistry and biology also need mathematicians,
particularly those with higher degrees in computer science, to help develop models
of complicated processes.

All chemical combinations and their equations are governed by certain

mathematical laws.

B. Agriculture

Agriculture needs a direct application of mathematics, such as, measurement of

land or area, average investment and expenditure, average return or income,
production per unit area, cost of labor, time and work, seed rate etc. Progress of the
farm can be judged by drawing graphs of different items of production.

C. Engineering

Numerical analysis is one of the basic tools in modelling engineering problems

(e.g., phenomena involving heat, electricity, and magnetism)

Relativistic mechanics, quantum mechanics, and other theoretical constructs

were created to extend and improve the applicability of earlier ideas.
