PRACTICAL—1
Working/Perform:
• To create empathy, we'll be using the IBM Mural tool.
• Firstly, we need to have an account, so we will sign onto
the website/app.
• Then, in the list of templates, we need to search for
‘Empathy Map’ template.
• By default, the size of the sticky note is very small. To
make it readable, we need to resize it according to our
convenience.
• To add more sticky notes, we need to double click on the
quadrant where more notes are needed.
• We have to review our notes, pictures, audio and video
from our research/ fieldwork and fill out each of the four
quadrants while defining and synthesising.
+-SAYS:
This section contains direct quotes from the user that have
been gathered from the research phase or previous data. It
might feature statements like “I need something fast,” or
“I'm not sure where to go from here.”
-THINKS:
While this quadrant may have similar content to the
“Says” section, it is more focused on what a user is
thinking and doesn't choose to say out loud.
-DOES:
This quadrant captures what the user physically does and how
they do it. In other words, what actions does the user take and
how do they take them?
-FEELS:
This category addresses the user's emotional state and
answers questions like “What is the user feeling during
this product experience?” and “What worries or excites
the user?”
*- EMPATHY MAP:
Build eiTl|DBthy a nd keep your focus on the user by putting yourself in their shoes
Required Tool: IBM MURAL TOOL
Outcomes/Learning:
• Working on an Empathy Map develops a deep, shared
understanding and empathy for other people, an Empathy
Map helps describe the aspects of a user's experience,
needs and pain points. This template allows you to quickly
understand your users' experience and mindset.
• Visualizing user needs and behaviors in an empathy map
helps our design thinking teams align on a deep
understanding of end users.
• Uncover user needs that the user themselves may not even
be aware of.
• Understand what drives users' behaviors.
• Guide us towards meaningful innovation.
• Involves a group of people to give and share their ideas
and creates a more realistic outcome of the scenario.
