“My Self: an Individualistic or Collective?

Every person is different to one another; they possess unique characteristics and

perception in life.

Did you already know yourself? Are you an Individualistic or a Collective person?

I can say that I did not really know myself, day by day, I notice the different attitude and

behaviors that I have, and these can help me to know my personality and to grow more. As an

individual, I consider myself as a collective, because collectivism means you think about others

not only yourself.

I remember when there is a face-to-face class before, we have an examination, a lot of my

classmate did not have a paper so, and I share my paper to them. I did not see that one paper only

left for me. For some people that is not good, but for me, it is nice because helping other people

give me a satisfaction in life. However, sometimes some individuals is taking an advantage in the

kindness of a person, which is the reason why every person change.

Every decision I make, the situation of the people in the environment is the one that I

consider before I act and speak. It is important for me the feelings of others than may own

feelings, because I know what is best for myself. I feel great if my actions inspires others to

achieve their goals and work hard. I believe in the saying that nobody is an island; we cannot live

without other people’s help. In addition, people around us need our help to live in this world.

Having a unity can develop our socialization and interaction to others.

I therefore conclude that being a collective person does not mean that you did not care about

yourself; it is prioritizing others over yourself.
