1.1 INTRODUCTION
change when the students using the internet. Although this effects may lead into
positive and negative changes.
It is a general observation that the use of internet can lead to improve
student’s performance in thinking logically, problem solving, procedure and
understanding relationships (Temple and Gavillet, 1990). In this research it is true
that internet can improve the quality of education that a country has, it helps the
students to develop their skills and ideas in different fields if education. It can offers
the opportunity to learn different things, it can open the door foe wealthy information
that all people needs.
On the other hand, some researchers and media correspondents and policy
analyst argue that use of internet suppresses the capacity of brains to develop
imagination (Davis, 1989).
The research (Willis, J. 2008) shows that internet can refresh different
information in some parts of the brain. The more areas of the brain that are
activated, the more likely it is that you’ll understand and retain the information.
Because of this many people can create different things with the use of their
imaginations and with the help of internet in their life. Some of this are the ways on
how to study faster without consuming lots of time.
Some researchers says that the evolution of internet may affect the way of
students act, they cannot make any notes for their lectures because there is an
internet that they can be a source of different information. This shows that the use of
internet can lead into serious way of learning because it can really change the study
habits of the students.
People over the world can benefit from internet. Some of the behaviors we
can see are the focus of the students in the internet than in their lectures. Most of
the time all their answers are coming from the internet that can cause lack of

knowledge. Other students prefer to use the internet as a guide to their studies, to
look for the different information that they didn’t really know.
Nowadays, it is widely spread of internet, whether you are a student or even
a professor, there is no exception when it comes to invention of internet in
education. The easier and fastest way the better.
In this case, not only psychological or physiological can affect by the
internet usage, it can also affects the education and the study habits of the students.
In today’s generation, students are not interested anymore in traditional style on
how to study. When the internet evolve, it shows that the study habits of the
students are affected by the modern technology.
questionnaires on some students from grade 12 ABM in order to know the specific
details in this problem. With the help of that research, we know the effects of
internet in the study habits of the students and some information that is connected
to that problem that the researchers wants to solve and to gain some answers to
their questions.

This chapter contains the values readings and selected information found significant for
the study. This chapter deals with the different information reviewed from different
articles, books, magazines, and other theses as an integral part of the review of the
related studies. Internet is one of the most used sources that can affects in the study
habits of students, especially the students in Calaca Senior High School. There are
some studies and literature that are somewhat related to this study. We as researchers
choose this topic because of major concern and good sympathy of our study. Internet
has a big impact on how it affects the study habits of students. Study habits can be
defined in many and different ways. Study habits on this research is the behavior of the
students when they are studying.
According to (Lajwanti, 2012) the research attempt that has an impact when a
student use this in their study habits. This shows that the secondary higher student
affected by the impact of internet in their study habits. The sample population of this
study is consisted of 480 students (240 boys and 240 girls) these respondents are
studying in various secondary schools in Agra City. The method used to select the
respondents is the purposive sampling method, to get the number of girls and boys. The
researchers use Self Development S.H.I.C.S to know the different study habits of their
respondents, the higher secondary education students. The study habits of the students
divided from eight areas studied Comprehension, Concentration, Task- Orientation and
Sets, Interaction, Drilling, Writing, Supports, and Recording. Those are the eight areas
of study habits of their chosen respondents, they get that will the help of self-develop
S.H.I.C.S. the researchers use the descriptive and inferential modes of treatment is
adopted to analyze and interpret the data. For the testing and the significant hypothesis,
CR- test and 3- ways ANOVA testing applied of the researchers in the study. Based on
the results, this revealed that the study habits of internet users and non- users different
significantly and users are found better. While the interaction effects of sex, stream of
education and internet use/ non- use on study found insignificant i.e. because those
variables have no combined effects on study habits of higher secondary education
students.

The researchers conclude that their based on the objectives and findings given to their
studies and analysis have done in this paper. Some conclusion are formulated by the
researchers that the internet users and non-users showing differences in their study
habits and they have significant difference. In the result, female students are better than
male students in both groups are (internet users and non- users). The results says that

questionnaires that is designed for gathering the students opinions about the internet
and social media that can affects to the study habits of the students vocational school of
higher education. As the result revealed, the internet and digital technologies has a
negative impact on students studying habits. The suggestion about the topic related that
presented to the study. In the conclusion to this, the findings showed that approximately
50% of the female and male students spend one and half-hour internet per day. The
findings related to using computer and internet indicated 65% of responding female and
male students spend more than two hours on computer everyday. The findings
indicated that social networking sites negatively influence student habits, grades
socialization, etc. the findings approximately 60% of responding students do not have
enough time for reading books, newspapers, etc. doing physical exercise , and going to
the gym. Because students prioritize the internet everyday.
The Social Media Use and the Study Habits of the Millennial
This study shows that social media and social networking poured b=very
intentionally in the present, the no academic institutions could stop its impact to
education. The researchers choose to conduct the impact of these technologies and its
effectivity to the certain school conditions. The aimed of this study is to describe the
extent of the usage of social media as a road to the improvement of the study habits of
the Carolinians especially to the 60 students of the University of San Carlos, Basic
Education Department- South Campus in Cebu City, Philippines, that is randomly
choose the students. The researchers used the descriptive survey research and non-
experimental design with the use of simple percentage, mean and standard deviation
done using the tool they use to get the opinion of the respondents, which is the survey
questionnaires, which was tested for face and content validity. The researchers used
the pilot tested tool to obtain the reliability and proven to be reliable (a= 0.891) using
Cronbach’s Alpha. Based on the gathered data, student spent most of their in social
networking sites whether on typical day (28%) or weekend (46%) and they usually do
this inside their bedroom (46%) or in the internet café (56%) outside. They usually use
their mobile phones (76%) to visit social sites and the majority (34%) received less
parental support.
In terms of the study habits of the students, it was related average (x= 3.32, SD=0.33).
This means that social media doesn’t have negative influence on the study habits of the
students in this study. Even most of them utilized in available technology they have
such as their phones and they spend most of their time on internet cafes. It was
recommended that even though they spend most of their time in social media, there is a
parental involvement and teacher to guide them to become a responsible users of

A Study of Internet Usage and Study Habits among Students
According to (Daman Deep, 2019), the use of technology in education has
brought a paradigm shift in the education sector. The number of internet user’s increase
in manifolds. The student depend mostly on the internet that can increase rapidly in
urban as well as in rural areas. In this study, it says that internet used for academic and
non- academic purpose. There are lots of sites or resources from the internet which is
available that can helps the students enriching their knowledge. The focus and goal of
the research paper is to study the internet usage for non- academic purpose and pattern
of study habits among higher secondary school students of Bhopal City. The study has
showed a decline in the study habits of students due to less control over the internet
usage. The study conducted on 200 students of class 11 th of CBE schools of Bhopal.
The method that the researchers used in random sampling method used to collect the
relevant data from the students. The researcher’s tool to collect the data related to the
internet usage for non – academic purpose is the Internet Addiction test that developed
by Dr. Kimberly Young used. The split half reliability of this too is 0.859 and Cronbach’s
Aloha is 0.902. The questionnaire compose of 20 questions each item rated on a 5-
point scale.
The result have indicated that the adolescent carried away from the charm of the
internet. As a result, the students become addicted to the internet for entertainment.
They are unable to practice the right study habits to study the various subjects. In this
result, there is a moderate negative relationship between excessive internet usage and
study habits. It is the responsibility of the teachers, parents, and administrators to guide
and limit the students to use internet. The diagnostic test for Internet Addiction should
take to know the actual position of internet usage. Timely measures will help to direct
the students in the right part. Human beings should rule on the technology but not in
any case, human beings should ruined by the technology.
Differential Influence of Internet on Learning Habits of Secondary School
Students in Ampara District of Sri Lanka
According to (Dr. A.M Jazeel, 2019) the internet has a big impact on life of
students in Sri Lanka in number of ways. Their life style, their personal contacts, their
food habits, study habits, etc. have been changed because of the use of internet. The
present study attempts to find out the influence of the internet that can control and affect

the study habits of secondary school students. The researchers sample for this study
consisted of 300 students, all of their respondents studying of various secondary
schools in Ampara district of Sri Lanka. The sampling method tool they used to collect
the data in the study is the Learning Skills Inventory. This tool covered the dimension of
learning habits of the students: reading textbooks, note taking, studying, memorization,
preparation and time management. Using the T-test the data is analyze. The results of
this study revealed that the study habits of the internet users and non- users differ
significantly and non –users of the internet found to be better than that of internet users.
They have differed significantly in the dimensions of reading textbooks, test preparation,
and time management. The learning habits directly reflect on one is learning ability and
this findings helps to improve the learning habits of the students in school. Therefore,
this research suggested promoting the students less use in the internet. It suggests that
the students need to limit themselves to use internet to have making an effective
learning habits.
“The result suggest that students with high levels of internet addiction maybe
particularly at risk from lower motivations to study, and, hence, lower actual academic
performance” said, researcher Phil Reed.
2.3 Synthesis
The researchers believe that each literature and studies stated in this research are
similar on the present study and relates based on the flow of their analysis from the
proposed study and have differences.

III. The created questionnaire was checked and validated by the adviser of the
researchers to make sure that it was prepared thoroughly.
IV. Questionnaires were distributed to 119 grade 12 ABM students in Calaca Senior
High School. Participants were giving an enough time to respond and then the
researchers collected the questionnaire after respondents finished answering the
questionnaire.
V. The result was tabulated by the researchers. They used weighted mean and analysis
of variance in analyzing the result
3.7 Statistical Treatment
Weighted mean was applicable to the options of different weighs like what is used in a
rating scale. Weighted mean is a measurement of central tendency. It represents the
average of a given data. It is quiet similar to arithmetic mean or sample mean. To obtain
the result of the questionnaire given to 119 chosen respondents or the chosen students
from grade 12 ABM in Calaca Senior High School, researchers decided to get the
weighted mean. The formula of the weighted mean is:
x́=

To determine the significant difference between the internet and the habits of G12 ABM
students, F-Test (Analysis of Variance) would be used by the researchers. The formula

Proposed Activity
This research represents a problem about “The Effects of Internet in the Study
Habits of Grade 12 students in Calaca Senior High School S.Y. 2020-2021”. It
contains a chapter 1-3 information about the problem.
We all know that internet plays a huge role in today’s generation, especially in this
time of pandemic. Education now is very different from before, it focuses on how the

students learned in other ways. With the help of internet students, continue to learn, and
explore about the different knowledge found in different websites. However, some of
this websites is no longer a relevant one becoming a source of information. As a
researcher, I know that all students are using internet and most of them cannot control
their selves in playing games and using social media than studying.
This research investigated, to help the students informed how internet affect their
study habits and what is the negative and positive effects of this to them in terms of
gaming and social media. As the result of this research, it says that most of the Grade
12 students in Calaca Senior High School did not have enough time to study because of
internet. In addition, some of them are getting information that is not true or good
enough because of some edited websites. Moreover, they gained different information
in surfing in the internet but it is important to read and explore before you share it to
other people. Especially in this time of pandemic, the education is focusing using the
internet because of the virus, so it is difficult to get some relevant information in this way
of education.
