LOVE THE EARTH; STOP PLASTIC POLLUTION

According to the study of Jambeck and others, the Philippines ranks as the world’s
third-biggest polluter with 2.7 million metric tons of plastic waste generated each year in 2015,
however, in this present time, it is still unsettled. The government elucidated their impression
to lessen the use of plastic bags and meanwhile, in some places of the Philippine archipelago,
the percentage of plastic usage is growing somehow. This fairly throw-away attitude or culture
has become the worst problem of our time.
Plastic has become a constant element in our lives. It is everywhere: product
packaging, cosmetic ingredients, textiles, mobile phones, and so much more. As a matter of
fact, plastics are now a serious headache for the planet is proved by the fact that more and
more governments are proposing measures to reduce their impact on the environment. In
2021, Europe banned the sale of single-use plastics such as drinking straws, cutlery, or cotton
buds within its borders, to put the magnitude of the problem into context. Every year, five
hundred billion plastic bottles are produced worldwide, in 2020 we had generated more than
five hundred million tonnes of plastic, nine hundred percent more than in 1980, and plastic in
the ocean is already more than one hundred fifty million tons of waste. Each year around eight
million tons of plastic end up in our area and oceans, and by 2050, they could contain more
plastics rather than fish. Studies have found that certain chemicals in the plastic can leach out
of the plastic and into the food and beverages we eat, some of these have been linked to
health problems such as metabolic disorders.
In using some plastic alternatives, we can be free from illness-causing the chemicals in
plastic. It is required to use these things for alternation such as stainless steel, glass, platinum
silicone, beeswax-coated cloth, wood or bamboo, paper, and cardboard. We must keep in
mind that anything we buy has an environmental footprint. Be that as it may, these products
are longer lasting than plastic, they still take energy to make and transport. Using well-made
durable products will help to ensure the safety of our health from the chemicals given by
plastics.
On the other hand, some say that plastics are easy to use, hand-carry, and not that
fragile. Unlike all those alternative products, plastic is accessible and easy to buy, in addition
to this, plastics are easy to make, transport, have ease to dispose of, and are unbreakable in
some way. But my concern to some extent is plastics are harmful and dangerous. The world
generated two hundred forty-two billion tonnes of plastic waste or twelve percent of all
municipal solid is where we are living. It is injurious for our daily lives as well as the next
generation to live healthfully on this Earth.
This actively demonstrates that plastic waste must stop for the sake of our mother
earth. To sum up, everything that has been stated so far, if we want to have a longer life, we
should take care of ourselves, by means of taking care of the environment; people, especially
our very own selves. We are making our future thus making it a more healthful and worthy
living; nothing lasts forever, we can change the future.
