MODERN SURVEYING - 20CE32P (Practice – 1) 2021-22

Experiment 1: Conducting block contouring using grid method

Aim: To draw a contour map of given area

Apparatus:
a. Dumpy Level
b. Leveling Staff
c. Arrows
d. Tape
e. Ranging Rod
f. Cross Staff

Procedure:
1. Mark an area of 1600 m2 (Length 40 m and Width 40m).
2. Divide the area into equal grids (say 5 m x 5 m) using cross staff, tape and ranging rods.
3. At each corner of the grid, drive an arrow.
4. Select any suitable place for setting up the instrument.
5. Place the instrument at a convenient position and level the instrument. Adjust the leveling
by:
a. Setting up the level
b. Leveling up
c. Centering
d. Elimination of parallax
6. Take staff reading on given bench mark record it in Back Sight column.
7. Take staff reading at every corner at an interval of 5 m.
