3.

0 FINDING AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

In our study, 50 students were chosen at random as respondent in order to complete


the questionnaire. Using our questionnaire, we can do analysis to determine the issue on time
management and the distractions in the university student college environment.

3.1 FINDING

3.1.1 Demographic Background

The pie chart in Figure 1 shows the gender of respondent that answered the survey of
“What Is the Best Way for College Students to Balance Work, Academic and Social Life?”.
From the pie chart, we can see that female has the highest frequency with 30 respondents
while there are only 20 male respondents in which totaling to 50 respondents. So, we can see
that most of the respondent who answered this survey is female. The mode of the gender is
female which occupy 60% while male respondent only occupies up to 40% only.

There are 4 categories for age on the questionnaire that we have provided. The highest
percentage was 68% which is the age between 21-23 followed by 22% which age 24-26. The
percentage for age 18-20 was 8% meanwhile for the age of 27 and above was about 2% who
answered the questionnaire.

The pie chart shows the percentages of the respondents that answered the survey of
“What Is the Best Way for College Students to Balance Work, Academic and Social Life?”.
From the pie chart, we can see that most of the respondents was from UTHM with the total
27 of the 50 respondents in which the percentage was 54% . The second highest respondent
was from UiTM with 9 respondents followed by 18% of the total respondent. Next, both
UniKL and UMP shared the same percentage with 2 respondent which followed by 4% each
of the universities. Exactly, the same frequency of amount of the respondents are from the
students of UTM, UPM, UNISZA and other shared with 1 respondent which also shared the
same percentage which is 2% of who answered the survey that we have carry out.

The year of study of the respondent who completed the survey is illustrated in the pie
chart above. According to the pie chart, the respondents from the third year had the highest
number of responses which 38 respondents, followed by 56%. In the meantime, the second
biggest number of responders came from the fourth year with 12 respondents in which
followed by 24%. After that, the second year came in third with a total of 10 respondents
whereby followed by 20% of all 50 respondents. There was no one from the first year who
responded to the survey. Based on the pie chart, we can assume that the third year students
from all universities have answered the question.
3.1.2 The Difficulty in Managing Time at Hostel or College.

Many Students Are Working While Studying?”

The pie chart above illustrates the responses to the questionnaire question “Are you
aware that nowadays many students are working while studying?”. It reveals that roughly 45
people or 90 % of the respondents answered yes on this issue, while 5 people or 10% of all
respondents chose maybe. Based on the pie chart, it appears that no one voted for the no
option.

In the pie chart above, it shows that 31 respondents in which followed by the 62% of
who was not agreeing on the questionnaire which is “Do you agree that work is more
important than having a good social life and studies?”. The second highest with the 26% or
followed by 13 respondents of all of the respondent chooses the maybe option. Lastly, there
were also who agreeing with this question on the survey which it was about 6 respondent
which followed by 12% of them who choose it.

Tips to Manage Your Time Wisely?’

According to "Which of the following is not the tips to manage your time wisely?" in
the questionnaire that we provided, the bar chart indicates the percentage of respondents that
answered the question. With 36 responders, the greatest proportion of the chosen answer was
going on vacation, which was followed by 72 %. Meanwhile, the responder who voted to
remove non-essential tasks received the second greatest percentage of votes with 15
respondents followed by 30 % of all respondents. According to the question, the third biggest
proportion on the bar chart went to planning ahead on the not the tips to manage the students'
time properly in order for college students to balance work, academics, and social life.
Finally, it appears that prioritizing tasks based on priority received the least votes in the
survey with only 8 respondents choosing this option followed by 16 %.

Benefits of Time Management?”

The bar chart shows that the number of percentages of the respondent who response to
this question of our survey. The highest percentage of the students who chooses the more
opportunities on the benefits of time management was about 72% of all respondents and it
shows that about 36 respondents that chooses this answer. The second highest was the stress
relief as it also shows that about 30 which followed by 60% of the respondents who chooses
this option as answer. Lastly, about 10 respondent which followed by 20% chooses the short
time as the benefits time management. As for this question, the respondent can at least choose
for about to two options as their answer.
3.1.3 Best Ways to Balance Work, Academics and Social Life.

The pie chart illustrates the percentage of respondents who responded positively to the
question "Does having a balance work, study, and social life affects your health in terms of
physical and emotional?" According to the graph above, the majority of respondents in the
survey chose the yes option for this question, contributing for 35 out of all responses which
followed by 70%. Next, the second highest respondent for this kind of question in the survey
chose maybe as their response, as it was also shown that about 10 respondents followed by
20%. According to the pie chart, there are just 5 responders followed by 10% who chose no
as their response.

The pie chart represents the percentage of the students who chooses the answer for the
question of “Do you believe that students who works while studying have greater social
skills?”. About 30 student respondents chose the yes option for this question and it was
followed by 60% of their total. Meanwhile, the second highest of the respondent who has
chosen the maybe option for this question was about 16 respondents as the percentage also
shows that the one who has chosen this option was at 32%. Based on the pie chart, it also
shows us that the person who not agreeing with the statement of students who works while
studying have greater social skills was at 4 respondents with a percentage of 8% of all of the
response.

for Yourself Will Help You to Make Enough Time for Essential Task?

The percentage of the respondents who answered the question on “As a student, it is
hard to manage your time at college or home. Do you agree by making a schedule for
yourself will help you to make enough time for essential task?” was shown on the figure
above. As it also illustrates that the highest percentage of this question are agreeing with the
statement of making a schedule for their self will help them to make enough time for the
essential task that they want to do. It also shows that for about 43 respondent chooses the
agree option and it shows 86% students who agree with it. Besides that, the pie chart also
shows the second highest percentage which the respondent chooses maybe as their option
with a 6 respondent and 12% of all the respondent. According to the chart, the number of
respondents who chose not to agree with the above statement shows at only one respondent at
2%.

The pie chart shows that the percentage of the respondents to the question of “Do you
agree that balancing social life is not important?” which we have provided in the survey.
Based on the chart above, it shows that the highest percentage of people who not agreeing to
the statement of balancing social life was not important with about 39 respondents and 78%
respectively who disagree to it. The second highest percentage that illustrates in the chart was
the respondent who has chosen to agree to the statement with 8 respondent and 16% of the
total respondents for this question. There are only 3 respondent who ha chosen the maybe
option with a 6% that was depicted on the figure.

You Believe That It Will Give Positive Effects Such as Increases in Performance?”

The percentage of respondents who have completed this question is represented by the
pie chart. According to the question, which was “The engagement levels will increase if you
have a perfect balance work, study and social life. Do you believe that it will give positive
effects such as increases in performance?”, reveals that the responder who chose the yes
option for this question had the greatest percentage. With a total of 40 responders, the yes
option was chosen by nearly 80% of those who responded. With an 8 response and around
16% of all respondents, the respondent who chose the maybe option had the second highest
percentage. There are also approximately 2 responders with a 4% that chose the no as an
option to disagree with the above statement.

The histogram above illustrates the percentage of the answered question by the
respondent which was the “Which of the following can help students to balance their work
and study?”. Based on the histogram, it shows that the highest percentage with 44
respondents and about 88% has chosen the to not leave things to the last minute as the best
option that they can choose according to the title of our survey. Next, the second highest
percentage that the respondent has chosen was create a schedule and follow it as the second-
best option to help the students to balance their work and study. It also shows that it has about
41 respondents with about 82% of all the response. Besides that, there are only 7 respondents
with 14% that has answered the statement with saying yes to everything even if it gets in their
way to study or work. Lastly, the students may also choose the 2 of the option as their answer
as most of it was related to the above statement.

The bar chart shows the percentages of the completed question that has been
answered by the respondent which the following question was “Which of the following is not
the impacts of work life balance towards performance?”. The option with the highest
percentage of the question was not enough rest. It has been chosen as the best response
through the statement of not the impacts of work life balance towards the performance with
about 32 respondents and about 64% that response to it. The second highest percentage that
also has been shown in the chart was become more productive with 16 respondent and about
at 32% of all the respondents. Next, the third highest percentage of the chosen option was
prevented burnout in workplace or in class as the not impact of the statements of the above
charts with 12 respondents and at 24%. Based on the chart, reduce stress was voted as the
least according to the question above with a 10 respondent and at 20%. From the bar chart
above, it also shows that there was at least 2 option that the respondent chosen as their answer
for this question.

The histogram shows that percentage of the accomplished question which “Below are
the tips for maintaining balance between your social life and academics except:” that has
been answered by the respondent. The highest percentage for the question above was always
being alone has been exclude as the tips for maintaining the balance between the student’s
social life and academics with a 43 respondent and at 86%. The second highest percentage of
this chosen option by the respondent are coordinate the students free time with friends in
which include 7 respondents and at 20%. Meanwhile, the third highest option that has been
chosen as except the way of maintaining balance between the student’s social life and
academics was work in library or a quiet place with 9 respondents and at 18%. Based on the
histogram, it shows that joining a few clubs was the least voted option for the above question
which includes 7 respondents and at 14% only of all the respondents.

The bar chart shows the highest percentage of the question above was only agreeing
the statement which “Do you think that having a balance work, academic and social life is
important? Please state why?”. It also shows that it comes with a 2 respondent and at 4% with
the same answer which is agreeing of having a balance work, academic and social life was
important. Meanwhile, the second highest percentage shows that all of the other answer as an
option. For example, one of the answers to this question was it depends on the individual as
some may perform better in multitasking while some rather to put one more important task
than the other.

The percentage of the respondents who response to this question was being illustrated
in the chart above. The question was “What is your other suggestions on how to balance
work, academic and social life?”. The highest percentage for this question was 3 respondents
at 6% which answer it with nothing to the question. Meanwhile, the other share the same
percentage by completing this survey. For instance, the question asks on other
recommendation that the students could give in order to balance work, academic and social
life, the answer that was given was exercise, manage time wisely and clearing the important
things first before doing others.
3.1.4 The Distractions in College Environment.

The pie charts that shown above are the results of the respondents who has completed
answering the questionnaire which is the “Do you believe that students have distractions to
focus on their studies?”. It also shows that the highest percentage for this question was for the
option of being agree to the question with 44 respondents at 88%. Next, the second highest
percentage for this question was choosing maybe as their option as to believe that students
have distraction to focus on their studies. It also shows that there was 4 respondent and at 8%
whose chosen this option. There are also respondents who choose no as their option to this
question with 2 respondents at 4% who response to it.

The percentage of the completed question “In your opinion, what are the distractions
in college environment that can make students who are working while studying became less
focus in academic or not pay attention to their social life?” is shown in the histogram above.
Technology was chosen as the form of distraction in the college environment by the biggest
percentage of respondents which 31 respondent or at 62%. According to the histogram, the
leisure time was chosen by the second highest percentage of respondents, with 28
respondents representing for 56%. Jobs were rated as the third most common sort of
distraction in the college environment with 27 respondents at 54%. Finally, family has been
picked as the least distracting sort of distraction, with 15 responses accounting for 30% of the
total.

The illustration of the question above shows that the highest percentage that the
respondents have choose was open media social while studying as the excluding ways to
avoid distraction and stay focused on studying with 40 respondents at 80%. Next, the second
highest percentage was use music and headphones to cut down the noises with 12
respondents at 24% has chosen this option as their answer. the third highest percentage shows
that the respondents voted on the option of silence alerts and keep open internet tabs to a
minimum. It also shows that it has been voted by 10 respondents at 20%. The least option
that has been chosen as the answer for this question was find the best environment for
efficient studying with 9 respondents at 18%.

The graph of the question above shows that the highest percentage that the
respondents have choose was to take a break in order to increase their concentration with 44
respondent and 88%. Next, the second highest percentage is to make time for exercise to
make sure their body will fresh again with 34 respondent and 68%. The least highest
percentage shows that there are 1 respondent with 2% that voted on the option of lack of
sleep.
3.1.5 Preventing the occurrence of extreme stress among students.

The pie chart shows that the percentage of the respondents to the question of “Do you
agree that students who are working while studying are facing bigger stress than those who
are not?” which we have provided in the survey. Based on the chart above, it shows that the
highest percentage of people who not agreeing to the statement are about 31 respondents with
62%. The second highest percentage that illustrates in the chart was the respondent who has
choose maybe to the statement with 15 respondent and 30% of the total respondents for this
question. There are only 4 respondent who not agree with a 8% that was depicted on the
figure.

The pie chart shows that the percentage of the respondents to the question of “Do you
think that getting a good sleep is not important to help release their stress?” that we have
provided in the survey. Based on the chart above, it shows that the highest percentage of
people who not agreeing to the statement are 38 respondents with 78%. The second highest
percentage that illustrates in the chart was the respondent who agree with the question with 9
respondent and 18%. There are only 2 respondent who choose maybe option with 4%.

The charts above show the data of “Do you believe that those who are having a strong
network of support or strong community bonds foster both emotional and physical health is
an important component of someone’s life?”. There are 42 respondents with 84% that agree
with the questions above. The second highest answers maybe with 7 respondents and 14%
and there only 1 respondent that do not agree with the statement.

From the graph above we can see that the most answer that the respondent choose was to
always ask for a help when you need it with 92% and 46 respondents. There are 40
respondents that choose eat well with 80% and followed by lock yourself up with 7
respondents and the least answer is 4% with 2 respondents that choose to find more job.

the negative effects of stress among students?”

The graph above shows the question of “What do you think the negative effects of stress
among students?”. There are total of 50 respondents that answer the survey. We can see that
the most answer that had been chosen are increased likelihood of developing anxiety or
depression with 82% and followed by the answer of leads to less well-being with 58% and 29
respondents. The least one is to became more happy that voted by 5 respondents and 10%.
