Transport System – Research Questions

FAMILY/PERSONAL PERSPECTIVES

What methods of transport do I regularly use?

I usually use the car whenever I need to go from one location to the other. Before
my family had owned a car, we used public transport systems like monorails, LRTs
and buses to get around.

In what way does transport infrastructure affect where my family lives?

My family leaves near to a hubbub of transport systems such as train and bus
stations. This makes it easier to travel in case of an emergency.

Why is the speed of a journey more important to me than its quality?

The speed of the journey depends on when I need to reach my destination. If it is
an emergency, or I am late for work, the speed prevails. But if I am taking a long
route to another country / state, I prefer more comfort over speed.

LOCAL/NATIONAL PERSPECTIVES

How could the system of public transport be improved in my country?

The government could construct more bus and train stations (transport depots) and
increase the number of public vehicles in service to cater for the population’s
needs. Along with that, they should also improve the hygiene of the vehicle, which
is especially important in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
How has transport changed in my country over the last century?
When Malaysia was first occupied by the British Empire, they had only capitalised
on building railways. Soon after the era, there were still only bicycle rickshaws,
and babies on top of motorcycle handles. But now, cities are filled with cars, buses,
and all sorts of vehicles. Air transport and marine transport has also improved
significantly.

How are some people disadvantaged in my country because of where they live?
Some parts of Malaysia are isolated from the rest of the country, and thus, they are
not able to embrace technologies such as modern day vehicles. So, the villagers do
have problems with travelling from one place to another.

GLOBAL/INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES

Why do countries maintain transport links between each other and when might
they close them?
Countries that mainly rely on tourism and visitors from other nations do maintain
superb transport links and are interconnected with the rest of the world. Countries
that rely on trade also follow the same strategy as without the links, it would be
very hard to earn an income, and this might impact their economy. They might
close down these links in times of pandemic and extremely contagious diseases
(Covid-19) or if they are at war with each other.

Why do some countries have better public transport systems and infrastructures
than others?
Countries which do earn a higher income through other industry sectors have more
money in their possession than other nations. This can be invested in transport
systems for the public. It is also a good choice as it may attract tourists, generating
additional revenue.
In what way might land-locked countries be disadvantaged?
Land-locked countries do not have access to marine transport systems such as
boats. They only need to heavily rely on land and air transport. This may cause
congestion and accidents.
