Introductory Message
For the Facilitator:

Welcome to Practical Research 1 Grade 11 Self-Learning Module on The

Significance of the Study!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed, and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st-century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:

As a review complete the matrix with the appropriate information. Write

your answer in your notebook.

Steps in writing the scope and delimitation of the study

LESSON

The significance of the study is the importance of your research. This is

written as part of chapter 1. While stating the significance, you must highlight
how your research will be beneficial to the development of science and society
in general. You can first outline the significance in a broader sense by stating
how your research will contribute to the broader problem in your field and
gradually narrow it down to demonstrate the specific group that will benefit
from your research.
Significance of the study is divided into two parts

1. The introductory statement is a very short prelude or introduction

to this part of your research. This part of the research contains the
beneficiaries of your research.
2. The presentation of the beneficiaries contains the accounts or
descriptions of how the beneficiaries benefit from the study.

Method of presenting the beneficiaries

1. Hierarchical Method considers the positions of the beneficiaries, from

the highest position to the lowest position.

Examples of hierarchical method

A. Administrators
B. Teachers
C. Parents
D. Students
E. Researchers

2. Presentation according to importance is a method that tells who

would benefit most on your research.
Example of presentation according to the importance

A. Students
B. Parents
C. Teachers
D. Administrators

Whichever method, hierarchical, or presentation according to

importance, each beneficiary, should contain a brief discussion or description
of the benefits that the beneficiaries would receive through your research.

Tips on Writing the Significance of the study

Here are the tips that may be helpful when writing the significance of
the study. These tips will tell you the basic components expected to be seen
in the significance of the study content.

1. Refer to the statement of the problem

A problem statement is a clear concise description of the issue
that needs to be addressed by a problem solving team. It highlights
a knowledge gap or gap between the real/current state and the ideal
state. In writing a significance study, you need to do a one to one
correspondence between your general statement and specific
research questions. This can guide you in identifying the specific
contribution:
a. What is your research paper all about? And why are you studying
it?
b. What are the benefits or advantages of the study based on the
statement of the problem?
2. Write from general to specific
a. Start looking into the general contribution of your research
study, such as importance to society as a whole.
b. Then, look at the contribution to individuals which may include
yourself as a researcher.

Example of Significance of the Study

The study must be conducted to find out the major causes

of teenage pregnancy and the extent of the effect of teenage
pregnancy on the development of the students and out of school
youth in Rizal High School. The result of this study is beneficial
to students, out-of-school youth, parents, teachers, and school
administrators because this can give empirical data as bases for
suggestions on minimizing teenage pregnancy in the community.

The study will also benefit students who are still in school
because it will give them information about the causes of teenage
pregnancy and its possible effects on their studies.
The study will also benefit the out-of-school youth in the
sense that they are made to be aware of the causes of teenage
pregnancy and are helped to avoid early pregnancy, also to
increase their chances to participate in the Alternative Learning
System (ALTS), or increase their chances to go back to a formal
school.
This study will also benefit the parents to enable them to
realize their great role in educating their teenagers, protecting
and diverting them from indulging premarital sex.
The study will benefit also the teachers on the steps to take
for they can be informed on how important education is to the
development of teenagers to manhood and womanhood. This
enables them to identify the major causes of teenage pregnancy.
This study will also benefit the school administrators. It
will provide them the information about the importance of
knowing the factors behind the early pregnancy and the possible
effects on the educational development of teenagers. It is one way
that administrators will intensify sex education or improve the
knowledge of their teachers through seminars so that they can
deal better with their students to avoid early pregnancy.
