•IT IS THE PRIMARY ROLE OF TEACHERS TO
PASS KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION ONTO
THEIR LEARNERS.IN THIS METHOD,TEACHING
AND ASSESSMENT ARE VIEWED AS TWO
SEPARATE ENTITIES.LEARNER’S LEARNING IS
MEASURED THROUGH OBJECTIVELY SCORED
TEST AND ASSESSMENTS.
DIRECT INSTRUCTION
•DIRECT INSTRUCTION IS THE PRIMARY TEACHING METHOD
UNDER THE TEACHER- CENTERED METHOD, IN THAT TEACHERS
ARE THE SOLE-SUPPLIER OF KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION.
•DIRECT INSTRUCTION IS EFFECTIVE IN TEACHING BASIC AND
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS ACROSS ALL CONTENT AREAS.
CHARACTERISTICS
•THE TEACHER IS THE CENTER OF KNOWLEDGE AND IN CHARGE OF
LEARNING.
•STUDENTS ARE USUALLY PASSIVELY RECEIVING INFORMATION.
•THE INSTRUCTOR’S ROLE IS TO BE PRIMARY INFORMATION
GIVER AND PRIMARY EVALUATOR.
•STUDENTS ARE VIEWED AS “EMPTY VESSELS” WHO PASSIVELY
RECEIVE KNOWLEDGE FROM THEIR TEACHERS.

• LEARNERS DON’T LEARN TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER LEARNERS.

• LEARNERS DON’T USE THEIR COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

• THIS TYPE OF INSTRUCTION CAN BE BORING FOR LEARNERS.

• TEACHER-CENTERED METHOD DOESN’T ALLOW LEARNERS TO EXPRESS


THEMSELVE AND DIRECT THEIR OWN LEARNING.
• STUDENTS DON’T OUTGROW THEIR DEPENDENCY ON
THE SUPERVISING INSTRUCTORS AND TEACHERS.

• TEACHER-CENTERED INSTRUCTION DOESN’T EMPOWER
