WHAT I NEED TO KNOW
Force is used every day in our lives. A force acting on an object may cause
the object to change its shape or size, to start moving, to stop moving, to accelerate
or decelerate. When two objects interact, they exert a force on each other.
This module will help you gain knowledge on describing the effect of force on
the shape and size of an object.

Follow carefully all instructions indicated in every activity. Be honest in

When you were in grade 3 you learned that materials change due to the effect
of temperature. Now, we will learn the change in objects when force is applied.

WHAT S NEW

Study the picture. Do you observe that the sponge


changes its size and shape when you press it? If yes,
what caused the change? What about when you released
your hand, did it go back to each original size and shape?
WHAT S IT
What causes an object to change its size and shape? Before you will continue with
the lesson, the following terms and concepts are described below.

A. Force - is either a push or pull, which occurs when two or more objects
interact with each other. The shape and size of an object may change when
force is applied on it.
B. Effect - the outcome or result of an action after force is applied.
C. Shape - the external form or appearance characteristic of someone or
something.
D. Size - the measurement or dimension of an object.
E. When an object is bent, pressed, hammered, cut, crumpled or twisted, only
the physical appearance is changed. No new material is formed.
