LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

QUARTER 4
Content Standards: The learners demonstrate understanding of force that can change the shape, size, or
movement of objectives.
Performance Standards: The learners should be able to demonstrate conceptual understanding of
properties/characteristics of light, heat and sound.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to;
a. explain the effects of force applied to an object,
b. identify the changes happens to an object shape when force applied to an object;
c. illustrate what happens to an object when force is applied.

I. Learning Concept
Topic: Effects of force on objects (shape, size, and movement)
Learning resources: S4FEIIIa-1
Learning materials: Laptop, markers and visual aids.

II. Learning Procedure

A. Preliminaries
-Prayer
-Greetings
-Checking of Attendance
-Checking of Assignment
-Motivation
B. Lesson Proper
A. Activity (Groupings)
Directions: Divide the class into to two groups and each group will choose one representative who will demonstrate
the given activity, and the other group will define if there are any changes that happens to the object.

1. Breaking an egg.
2. Throwing a paper.
3. Pressing a clay.
4. Rolling a ball
5. Biting an apple.

A. ENGAGE
Directions: The students will identify if the given actions change its size, shape, or
measurements. (board work)
B. EXPLORE
The teacher will provide a dice to the students and the teacher will sing a song called
paru-parong bukid while passing the dice to each of the students, then when the teacher
stops singing the student who got the last touch of the dice will be answering the questions
if it is a true or false.

1. Force is a push or pull.

2. Without force, a moving object will stop.
3. Without force, an object at rest will not move.
4. A force can change the size and shape of an object.
5. Force can cause an object to move, stop , or to change direction.

C. EXPLAIN
● A force is a push or pull, which occurs when two or more
objects interact with each other.
● A force has amount and direction.
● Effects of Force on Objects

The shape of an object may change when force is applied on

it. Kneading a dough, pounding pepper, compressing cotton,
bending wire, twisting rope, stretching rubber band, or squeezing
rubber ball are some ways of changing the shape of an object.

Also, when force is applied to an object, the object’s size may

change. Some situations where force is applied and changed the
size of objects is the following: dropping a glass, pounding garlic,
cutting a paper, sharpening a pencil, and grinding papaya.

The force applied on an object also affects its movement.

Force can change the state of rest or motion of an object. An

example is when your hand pushes a marble gently on top of a
table. The ball then sets into motion. Now, if you keep your hand
on the opposite side of the moving ball, the moving ball comes into
a state of rest.

Force can change the direction of movement of an object. An

example is when a football player applies force by kicking the ball
in different directions.

Force can change how fast or slow the movement of an object

is. The ball travels farther when the force applied to it is stronger
and the ball travels nearer when lesser force is applied to it.

D. ELABORATE
Activity 1: What’s the action?
Directions: The teacher will demonstrate the force and action and the students will
observe the changes happen to an object shape when force applied to an object.

E. EVALUATE
Activity: Push or pull?
Directions: Check if the action is pull, push, or both push and pull. Answer this in
your activity notebook.
