I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. describe the effects of force on the shape and size of an object;

b. reflect on the importance of knowing force on the shape and size of an

object and;

c. demonstrate how force can change the shape and size of an object.

A. Engagement
Good morning teacher!
Good morning pupils!

Before we will start our class let us have

first a prayer.

May I ask _____ to lead us an opening

prayer.

Once again good morning grade and

welcome to our science class!
How are you today? We are doing great teacher
That's great!

Before we start our discussion, I want you

to raise your hands and shake it off. At the
count of 5.
(Teacher does the counting)

Alright! Now, hands down and you may

take your seats.

Class, just like your other teachers, I also

have my classroom rules and these are
abbreviated as L.P.D.R.
L - listen to the teacher;
P - participate actively;
D - do not answer in chorus; and
R - respect your classmates and teacher.

Are the rules clear class? Yes teacher

Very good!

1. Review

Now class, what was our topic last Last meeting we discussed gravity
meeting? as force.

That is right! Now to test if you really

understand the topic, let us have an
activity. The title of our activity is “Hep
Hep Hooray”.

Mechanics:

● The whole class must participate.

● The teacher will present some
pictures about gravity as force and
pictures that are not related to the
topic.
● Each student will identify the
picture.
● If the picture shown is gravity as
force the students are supposed to
say “Hep hep” while clapping.
● And if the picture shown is not
related to the topic students are
supposed to say “Hooray” and raise
their hands in the air.
● If students make mistakes they will
be eliminated.

Excellent, now let's begin!

Second picture:

Third picture:

Hooray

Fourth picture:

Fifth picture:

Hooray

Very good! Class, I really see that you

enjoy our activity and all of you did not
make mistakes. This clearly shows that
you really understood the previous
discussion. So, because of this, all of you
deserve a 5 Big claps. Ready, begin.

Do you have any questions about your

previous topic? No teacher
2. Motivation
Now class before we will start our
discussion, I want you to watch and listen
attentively to this video.
Are you ready?
If you want to dance class, you can
And if you want to sing you can sing, the
lyrics are presented in the video.

Just enjoy the video and understand the

lyrics.

Is that clear?

Okay everyone, did you enjoy the video? Yes teacher

What is the title of the song? Pushes and pulls song teacher

3. Statement of the Subject Matter and
Objectives
That is great to hear! Now, this morning we
will tackle Force and Motion.

I want you to listen and follow rules so that

at the end of the discussion, you will attain
the following objectives:

a. describe the effects of force on the

shape and size of an object;

b. reflect on the importance of knowing

force on the shape and size of an object and;

c. demonstrate how force can change

the shape and size of an object.
Are the objectives clear class? Yes teacher

B. EXPLORATION

To achieve our objectives, let us have our

first activity. The title of our activity is “I Possible Answers:
Am Elastic”
Group 1
MECHANICS: Name of the object: Rubberband
Illustration:
● The class will be divided into 3
groups.
● Each group will receive a ¼
illustration board and a marker.
● Each group will draw an object
which changes its shape and size
when force is applied but regains its
original shape and size when the
applied force is removed. Guide Questions:
● Put the name of the object above the 1. When you stretch the rubber

Group 3
Name of the object: Spring

Guide Questions:
1. When you squeeze the
spring, it will turn into
another shape, but when you
remove the force applied on
the spring, the spring will
return to its original shape.
2. Can

C. EXPLAIN

Based on the answers that you have given

in the activity, these are the objects that
change their shape and size when force is
applied but regain their original shape and
size when the force is removed.

Class, what have you noticed in the rubber The shape and size changed.

Did I apply force when I stretched the

Yes.
rubber band?

What happens when I release it?

It regains its original shape.

What does it show? It shows that when the force applied

to an object, the size of an object
may change.
That’s right!

How about pressing a sponge.

What did I apply to change the shape and

size of the sponge? Force
What happens to an object when force is
applied on an object? And why? The shape of an object changed
because force can shape an object.

That’s right!

How about the spring, what will happen if I

squeeze the spring? The shape and size changed.

Good because Force is either a push or pull

that occurs when two or more objects
interact with each other.

Pounding, compressing, bending, twisting,

stretching, or squeezing are some ways of
changing the shape and size of an object.
And a change in shape is called
deformation.

Now, we have 2 types of deformation:

elastic deformation and inelastic
deformation.

An object that will return to its original

shape and size after being squeezed,
pressed, twisted, and stretched undergoes
elastic deformation.
The things I have shown earlier are one
example of elastic deformation.

While, an object that will not return to its

original shape and size after being
squeezed, pressed, twisted, and stretched is
called inelastic deformation.

Just like dropping a glass.

What will happen if I drop the glass?

Can we return to its original shape and size

after being dropped?

So, what type of deformation does it belong

It will break
to?

Very Good! How about tearing a paper, can

we return to its original shape and size after No.
force was applied?
Inelastic deformation
Correct! Now, what is the effect of force on
the size and shape of the materials again?

That’s right! Also, if the material is smaller No

in size and the force is greater, chances are
high that the material cannot handle the The object will change its shape and
force so it will break or be destroyed. While size.
if the material is bigger in size and the force
is weak, little impact or no damage will
happen to the material.

In this situation, we can see that the effects

of force on a material depends on the size of
that material and the impact received by the
material depends on how strong or weak the
force is.

D. ELABORATE

Alright! Based on our discussion, who can Force is either a push or pull that
tell me about force? occurs when two or more
objects interact with each other.

Force can also change the shape and

How about the rubber band? Does the size

change? The rubber band changes its size but

original shape and size after being
stretched.

What do you call if the size changes but it

returns to its original form?

Excellent! It's called inelastic deformation.

Its inelastic deformation teacher.
Now, from your own understanding, do you
think that knowing the force applied on an
object and its shape and size important?
Why?"

Okay right! But let us take a look at this (The pupils will answer)
picture.
A broken cup teacher.

What is this?
It will break teacher.

What will happen if we apply force (ex. we

smash them) or we are not careful of the
glass?

Very good. It will break or it will be

shattered into pieces.

We need to be careful in holding

them, so that it will not break.
Now, that we know that there would be an Teacher.
effect if we apply force of the object, like
the glass that I have showed you, what will
you do if you are holding that glass? Or you
are tasked to wash dishes?

Great! We need to be careful in holding

them, so that it will not break. We will not
be scolded by our parents, and so that we
will not be hurt. Same goes with the other
