Say: We must love the Lord with All our heart, soul, mind, and strength. This love should be
expressed in our service to him – in the church and in our brothers and sisters. We worship
him during Sundays and other holy days to show our love for him. But we must also love our
neighbour as an expression of this love for God.

Informing Objectives
Tell the learners that at the end of this session, they should be able to

 Give specific ways on how we demonstrate our love for Jesus that can impact
others;
 Show appreciation of the gospel text by sharing one’s thoughts on how to

ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

The teacher shows a picture and lets the children identify what the picture means.

What does the pictures show?

How do we express our love to God?

Say: Our love to the lord should be expressed not just in words but in doing and we can show
it following his commandments. Love should not just be a feeling but an action. (by taking
care of his creation, by helping others, by going to church and serving the lord.)

TOPIC/THEME PRESENTATION
Gospel Reading
John 14:15-25 (New International Version)
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with
you forever—
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows
him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you
also will live.
20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves
me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

3
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us
and not to the world?”
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and
we will come to them and make our home with them.
24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not
my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you.

Gospel Background: Jesus continues to prepare his disciples for his absence. He exhorts
them to follow what he commanded them. Through this he will know that they love him and
because of this the Father will love them also. Jesus assured them that they will not be alone
even if he is gone. He will ask the Father to send the spirit upon them to comfort them and
lead them to where God is leading them to go and to guide them to all truth. The Spirit will
remain in them as an assurance that they too will live forever as Jesus is alive forevermore.
But above-all the Spirit will make this loving possible. It seems difficult to follow what the Lord
has commanded to us which is to love him and others but with the help of the Holy Spirit, it is
possible.

REFLECTION
Ask the learners the following questions.
Note: Elaborate the message of the gospel.
1. what do we keep showing we love God? *his commandments
2. or Who shows the love of God? *The one who keeps the commandments
3. What does a disciple mean? * someone who follows and believes Jesus Christ.
4. Who is the advocate that will be with us forever? *Spirit of truth
5. How can we keep God’s commandments? (answers may vary)
6. If you love God, how will you show you love Him too?

Note: Teacher may connect the lesson to Mother’s Day Celebration. Explain that mothers play
important role in the family. The love of a mother is like the love of Jesus.

Say: Loving God completely means honoring Him, obeying, and following his
commandments, and keeping God as the ultimate focus of our lives. Not just when we are
worshiping Him at Sunday services, but all the time.

INTEGRATION
For the integration, there is a differentiation in the activities between the younger and older
elementary.

Art and Crafts

Hide it in Your Heart Necklace
 Prepare the necessary art materials. Allow the children to be in a place where they can
work comfortably. Give each children Scissors, Construction paper, String/ribbon, Markers
or decorating materials and Hole punch (any alternative). Let children reflect on the material
through making a heart that contains on how to love the Lord.

4
Note: For Kinder/Nursery children, they will be assisted by assistant teachers or older
children.

Say: We must love the Lord our God not just by saying it but by doing it and by following his
commandments.

ASSESSMENT
Teacher distributes the activity sheets to the children.

Activity Sheet: Younger Elementary

Direction: Analyze the picture. Put a check mark ( ) to the pictures that show the love to the
Lord our God. In the space provided, write your way of showing your love to the Lord our God.

5
(Teacher collects the worksheets)

Say: Our gospel today teaches how to show our love to the Lord not just by word but by doing
it. Jesus on the night he was betrayed give us one command – love one another. This is not
love based on emotions, on relationships but love based on decisions. This love includes
loving those who are unlovable, our enemies, those who harm us, those who do no good to
us. Love is an action word. It is not best express in words alone. It is best expressed through
actions – by caring, helping, forgiving.

Memory Verse
Lead the children in reciting the memory verse and help them memorize.

John 15:9
Remain in my love.

Closing Prayer
Lead the learners in saying the closing prayer.
