Teaching BioChem in the Primary Grades

Content Standards: The learners demonstrate understanding of effects of temperature on


materials.

Performance Standards: The learners shall be able to investigate the different changes in
materials as affected by temperature.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students must have:


1. Differentiated physical change and chemical change;
2. Demonstrated experiments about physical and chemical change;
3. Reflected on the importance of knowledge on physical and chemical changes in
our life.

Now, before we go on with our lesson for


today, we will have another activity. This
activity will be by group.
I will divide you into four groups. So, we will
start with Ling and then so on…

will count to 10 and everyone must have
seated. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.

Okay , very good! Now, in this activity I will ( Students do as told )


give you pictures. You have to choose whether
it is physical change or chemical change. I will
give you one minute to do the activity. The
first group that will finish the activity and have
answered correctly will be given points.

Today, let us learn about physical and


chemical change. Listen and pay attention in
our discussion because at the end of this, we
shall be able to differentiate physical and
chemical change, demonstrate experiments
about physical and chemical change, and
reflect on the importance of knowledge on
physical and chemical changes in our life.

To achieve our objectives, let us again have an


activity. The title of our activity is “Perform
and Report Me”

In this activity, you will still have the same


groupmates. I will be assigning you to perform
something and you have to observe the
changes happening. List down the changes.
Choose a member to perform it in front, and a
reporter. Each group will be given two
experiments to be performed and reported in ( Students do as told )
front of the class.

These are the guide question for the report;


1. Is it a physical or chemical change?

3. What factor do you think contributed to
such change?

You can meet your group mates in your


assigned seats. At the count of 10 everyone
should be in their group.
