7E’s Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: Demonstrate an understanding of the properties of substances
that distinguish them from mixtures.
Performance Standard: Investigate the properties of mixtures of varying
concentrations using available materials in the community for specific purposes.
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC): Distinguish mixtures from
substances based on a set of properties; (S7MT-Ic-f-4)
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to;
• Describe what is pure substances and mixtures
• Appreciate the diverse range of substances and mixtures present in everyday life;
• Demonstrate the ability to identify examples of pure substances and mixtures.

IV. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

A. Preliminar Activities

1. Prayer
Before we start the day, may I request _____, (Students Pray)
lead us a prayer?

2. Greetings
Good Morning students! Good Morning Ma’am Rhea, Mabuhay!

3. Energizer

Now, let’s have a short energizer, I will

present a dance video and all you have to do Yes, we’re ready!
is to follow the steps. Okay class are you
ready?

If you’re ready, clap three times ( The learners will clap three times)

It seems that you are all ready now, okay, I will

present the video clip.

The teacher will present the video clip.

Saging-saging Energizer| (YouTube. com) ( The learners will dance)

4. Checking of Attendance

Is there any absent in the class?

Very Good! “I’m glad to announce that there is no

absent today”
5. Setting of Classroom Rules

Before we start our discussion, let us first

recall our classroom rules. Who can give me
the first rule? ( The learners will raise their hands)

Always make sure that your area is

clean.

Very Good! What are the others?

Be quiet
Sit Properly
Wear your shoe socks
Participate
A. ELICIT (Access prior knowledge)

I will show several pictures of different

materials. I want you to tell me if it is a mixture
of pure substances.

Coffee and Cream

QUESTIONS:
• What is your observations in the different
( Answers may vary)
materials?
• Based on our activity, how can you
( Answers may vary)
differentiate the pure substances to the
mixture?

B. Engage (Get the students attention on

the topic)

Now, I will play a video about the

substances and mixtures. Upon watching a Yes, ma’am!
video, please take note important concept.

The teacher will play a video about the

introduction of substances and mixtures. ( The learners will watch the video)
Pure Substances and Mixtures| Science for
Kids (YouTube.com)

Questions:
• What is the video all about? The video is all about pure substances
and mixtures.

• Based on the video presented what is pure (Answers may vary)

substances? • Pure substances are composed of
one or single type of matter or element
and have specific properties.
• There could be a physical change.
Great answers, how about the others?
(Other learners will give their answers)

How about the mixture, what is mixture? (The learners will raise their hands)
( The learners will give their answers)
Thank you, all your answers are correct.

C. EXPLORE (Provide students common

experience)

Now, we will have a collaborative activity.

The class will be divided into Four groups,

each group will be given set of tasks.

Each activity will require for you to do or

perform a specific tasks.
Are you ready for our activity? Yes, ma’am!

Group 1. “What Am I”

Directions: Consider some instances of

homogeneous and heterogeneous mixes that
you encounter in your house and give an
explanation of why you believe it to be a
homogeneous and heterogeneous mixture.

For group 1, all you have to do is to give an

examples of materials in your house that you
may think homogeneous or heterogeneous
mixture.

Did you guys understand the directions? Yes, ma’am!

Group 2. “Venn Diagram”

Directions: Using the venn diagram compare
and contrast the homogeneous and
heterogeneous mixture.

Homogeneous Heterogeneous
Group 3. “ Picture Analysis “
Directions: Analyze and understand the given
picture. After that answer the given questions.

Questions:
• What do you observe in the picture?
• Based on the given picture, what is the main
difference between an element, a compound,
and a mixture?

Group 4. “Substance or Mixture”

Directions: Analyze the provided images of
different materials. Then categorize the
materials shown in the picture according to
whether they are substances or mixtures.
Answers the guide questions that follow.
Guide Questions:
• How can you differentiate the substance to
mixture?
• Based on our activity, can you identify the key
characteristics that distinguish mixture from
substances?

You will be given 20 minutes to finish the task

that assigned to your group.
If you have any questions regarding in our
activity don’t hesitate to ask me.

Yes, ma’am!
(The learners will do the task)
D. Explain (Teach the concept)

Let us examine and hear your answers in the

collaborative activity.
( The learners will present their work)
Each group will present their specific task that
assigned to them.
After that, they will be graded using the rubrics.
( The teacher will assist the learners in their
presentation)

E. ELABORATE

The teacher will provide more explanation

about the topic.

Matter can be classified into pure substances and

mixtures. When two or more kinds of matter are put
together it is called a mixture. Mixtures can be
made with solids, liquids or gases. Any
combination will result in a mixture. A pure
substance consists of one phase with definite
composition which appears uniform in appearance
and composition, regardless of its size.

Mixture refers to the physical combination of two

or more substances in which the identities of the
individual substances are retained.

Heterogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or

more chemical substances (elements or
compounds), where the different components can
be visually distinguished and easily separated by
physical means.

Homogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or

more chemical substances (elements or
compounds), where the different components
cannot be visually distinguished.

Pure substance is a form of matter that has

constant chemical composition and characteristic
properties.

Element is a chemical substance that is made up

of a particular kind of atom and hence cannot be
broken down or transformed by a chemical reaction
into different element.

Compound is a chemical substance that is

composed of a particular set of

Molecules or ions that are chemically bonded. Two

or more elements combined into one substance
through a chemical reaction, such as water, and
form a chemical compound. All compounds are
substances, but not all substances are compounds.

Now, we will have a short activity. Complete the

graphic organizer given below by filling-in out with ( The learners will do the activity)
the terms provided below. You will have 5
minutes to finish the task.

It’s time to check your paper, exchange paper (The learners will exchange their
with your seatmates. papers with their classmates)

The teacher will give the correct answer.

F. Evaluate

Directions: Identify the word that describe in

each sentence.
1. Substances that cannot separated or broken
down into simpler substances. 1. Elements
2. Made by mixing other substances together. 2. Mixture
3. Composed of two or more elements. 3. Compound
4. Exhibits only one phase. 4. Homogeneous
5. It contains more than one phase. 5. Heterogeneous

G. EXTEND

Assignment: Research and list different

techniques use to separate mixture into their
components. Provide a brief description of
each technique and an example of when it
might be used.

And that’s all for today, Good bye (section) Good bye Ma’am Rhea, Thank you for
teaching us today, Mabuhay!
