INTRODUCTION TO COURSE:

AIM:

The aim of the course is to acquire basic understanding & knowledge of fabrics and materials for fashion. The learner will
be able to recognise weaves from knits & non‐woven, will explore drapability, finishing and fabric manipulation
techniques. The learner will be able to add value to the fabric & eventually the product with the acquired skills.

OBJECTIVE:

● Learners will be introduced to textile weaves


● Learners will be introduced to textile dyeing processes
● Learners will be introduced to fabric finishing techniques
● Learners will be introduced to fabric manipulation
● Learners will be introduced to textile printing techniques
● Learners will be introduced to surface embellishment techniques
LEARNING OUTCOME:

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

● Understand the conversion of fibre to fabric, including weaves/knits/ non‐woven


● Apply textile learning to fashion
● Appreciate qualities of textiles and usability in fashion
● Demonstrate the ability to select fashion fabrics.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY AND PLAN

ASSESSMENT: DATE: 27/08/2021 WEIGHTAGE: 50 %

BRIEF:
Learn and develop samples of textile techniques- basic weaves, basic knits, basic embroidery, block
printing and tie and dye. They will be evaluated on the basis of the exploration of the various
techniques.

DELIVERABLES:
-Journals
-Swatches of textile techniques: basic weaves, basic knits, basic hand embroidery stitches,
block-printing & tie and dye

BRIEF:
The evaluation will be based on the previous assessment as well as you will learn and developed the
samples of fabric manipulation techniques. You will go for the market survey and source the
different varieties of the fabrics and prepare the fabric swatch book as per the given guidelines. You
will select a theme and develop the final collection of five to six fashion products.

-Swatches of textile techniques & fabric manipulation
-Collection of five to six fashion products based on a theme with an inspiration board, colour board,
product board, material board, ideation, digital mock-ups and final collection

The students will apply textile learning to fashion, appreciate the qualities of textiles and usability in
fashion. Also, they will demonstrate the ability to select fashion fabrics and suitable techniques.
