Welcome to the exciting world of Slickline Memory Cameras. This guide will help and guide you
through the programming, downloading, depth and make up of your memory camera tools. So
let’s get started.
First lets click on the EVConfigMk 2 icon (should be found on the desktop) .
Click on “New Job”
Fill in the appropriate blanks.
Click “OK”, be aware of where the “Save” location is, this will be useful information later.
Now this will bring you to the “Programming Screen”
If you haven’t done so, now would be a good time to connect the supplied USB to Camera cord
and attach Camera to MCU.
MCU
Once all cables are connected it is time to program the camera with the appropriate record
time to get to depth and out of hole. Remember, when programming the time for the camera
to be recording it is important to figure your line speed (125 ft/min (max RIH speed), and 150
ft/min (max POOH speed)), also you need to figure for pressure testing and any other surface
equipment operations that may need to be done once battery is attached to camera and
lubricator has been stabbed on.
So if you’re going to 12500’ (3810 meter) your time to depth will be 12500’ (depth) / 125 (line
speed) = 100 minutes, plus add 20 minutes surface time (make up lubricator, pressure test,
etc..) plus 10 minutes at depth = 130 minutes. Now add time to POOH 12500 / 150 = 84
minutes. That’s a total of 214 minutes (3 hours and 34 minutes) in hole so you should program
for 215 minutes. It’s the same in meters too. 3810m / 38.1m per min = 100 minutes + 20 + 10
=130.
Once you have your “Record” time set you need to program camera. Just click “Write”.
OK, tool is programed and all looks good. Now before you get all excited and attach the battery,
did you: attach depth cable and encoder? Did you start your depth recording first before
attaching battery, this is important too. If so, then good for you, now RIH and have a good, safe
job.
Now just a quick review on the EV depth log.
Ok we will be creating new job, so first let’s get everything on the same page. Click on the
“System” tab.
This will open the window for connecting to the proper “Comm port”.
Click on the “Auto Detect” tab. This will detect the proper port and connect. Then click the
“Monitor” tab and click “Connect to MCU”. Now Click on the “Units” tab, this will allow you to
select the units of measurement for your particular geographic locale.
Now you need to set your encoder direction, so click on the “Depth tab”.
So that you are reading the proper direction, RIH and the depth is not going negative. Check the
“Switch A/B Direction”.
Now it’s time to start recording the depth. Click on the “Monitor” tab.
OK, you’ve connected to MCU successfully and made sure you’ve got the proper units of
measurement and that the encoder is monitoring the wire going through the counter head in
the proper direction. Now the IMPORTANT part, click on the “Start Record” button. You must
start your depth recording before attaching battery to camera and stop recording after
removing battery from camera. Simple to remember “Depth is the FIRST and LAST thing you
Start and Stop”. Once you click on the “Start Record” button you will be asked to label the file,
name it whatever it is that will be easy for you, name it the job or the company doesn’t matter,
also check to where the file will be saving to, Saving to the Desktop is usually the easiest and
easier to find. DO NOT CLOSE OUT OF THE DEPTH WINDOW, you will need to monitor your
depth as you RIH.
Now you’re RIH and your depth is all way off and your line speed is 30 times the speed of light
or slower, so you will need to calibrate your depth as you RIH.
Click on the “Depth” tab.
First stop at a good round number (100, 500 feet) it doesn’t matter, now the deeper the better
but usually 500 feet is fine 1000 better. So in the “Distance Unreeled” box put in the amount
you will unreel and then click “Start Calibration”, also you will need to make sure that the
“Depth Type” box has the “Factor” checked. Now spool off the appropriate amount, when
done, Click “Stop Calibration” and then click the “Monitor tab”.
Now type in the depth you stopped at and click “Reset Depth”, now your depth should be
calibrated to the counter head and you shouldn’t need to adjust depth, if still having issues just
repeat the calibration steps.
Now you are good to go, RIH to depth, making sure that you stop about 5 feet or so above the
desired depth stopping at 1 foot intervals and slowly make your way down, if at all possible do
not sit down but that is usually inevitable so lightly sit down, don’t put all the tool string weight
on the camera. Come up slowly stopping about a foot or so above, slowly pull up a couple more
feet then just POOH, (150 ft/min). IMPORTANT Note: When out of hole, remember the lights
need to be off (this means the camera is done recording) if lights still on, Wait. The camera
needs to finish recording before disconnecting battery. When lights go off, wait a minute then
disconnect.
Remember: DEPTH is the FIRST thing to start RECORDING and the LAST thing to stop
RECORDING.
OK, now you ran in hole, made it to depth (the proper depth) and you’re at surface and the
whole world is waiting and wanting to see what the problem is and how much more money
they don’t want to spend to fix it and who they can blame and make pay for it.
Now click on “Resume Job” box. Now you will click on the Job you already created.
Click “OK”
Now you will attach camera to MCU via the USB to Camera cable, Click on the “Connect” (seen
here as the “Disconnect” tab, same placement just envision the “Dis” gone) tab (if greyed out,
be patient)
Now you are connected you will click “Scan Camera” tab, this will allow you to see that; one,
you have good data; two, you will be able to verify the video and see the problem. After you
have confirmed data you will need to download the video. IMPORTANT: first you will need to
load your depth data, this can be done by clicking on the “Load” tab.
Remember where you saved your Depth log (desktop maybe a hint), find it and click it then click
“open” or just double click the file.
Once downloading is complete you will want to see the job, so lets find the job folder.
You will need to find the “My Optis Jobs” folder. This can be found usually on the Desktop, but
if not there it defaults to the “Documents” folder. Open this folder and scroll through till you
find the job you created. Open folder.
Now to see the video with the depth and times open the job folder,
The Circle in the upper right is your high side indicator, the radial line shows the high side and
you have a deviation indicator as well.
Now if you want to see your video without all the overlays, click on the “Data” folder in your job
folder. Click on the “Video” folder. (See Below)
Now you will click on the “Video_1” icon.
This will show your video with no overlays, also you will need to now this when you make your
clips. I suggest using “Movie Maker”, this program comes with the Microsoft operating system,
and can be found by clicking the Microsoft windows icon in the lower left hand side of your
screen, go into “All Programs” and its usually there. If for some reason you don’t have it
installed go to “Microsoft.com” and download its free.
In Movie Maker you can make short clips of your video, for instructions click the “Help” tab in
Movie Maker. It is very easy to use, start new video project then scan through the video. When
you find what you want to make a clip of, right click and click “Set as starting point”, then scan
through till you find a good stopping point (some seconds away) then right click again and click
“Set as end point”, then save. Easy.
Thank you.
