1) What are the four qualities of the vernacular language? Define each. (10

2) Explain: If in their natural sluggishness they are but geese, let them
abstain from imitating the eagles soaring to the stars. (2 points)
o The statement strongly suggests that If one individual does not
acquire specific characteristics of an individual that belongs to
the higher hierarchy, one must refrain from imitating what others
had been. Same goes with the idea another way around.
3) "Writings," said Dante, "can be expounded in four dimensions: literal,
allegorical, moral, and anagogical." Explain the literal approach with an
illustration. Explain and exemplify the literal. (5 points)

the literal approach, according to Dante, refers to the writers’
utilization of words purely by their primary meaning, contradicting
the other meanings we individually give the word.
4) Explain the allegorical. (5 points)
o This refers to the narrative which includes character, place or
events which are used by the author to deliver a message regarding
world issues and occurrences.

granted," says Boccaccio, "it may rarely accomplish anything commendable
if the instrument by which its concepts are to be wrought out are wanting
points)
o The statement by Boccaccio strongly suggest that writers rarely
accomplish an exemplary writing if one does what he doesn’t really
want to do or in some cases forced to finish one specific task.
