NAPLAN
The NAPLAN Year 7 & 9 literacy and numeracy test results were released last week. Overall, many successes to celebrate 😊. Well
done to everyone involved! To help us digest the results, our very own Kath Sobey has put together a two-pager about our NAPLAN
headlines. The document can be found HERE. To talk through the NAPLAN headlines Kath has organized an optional Zoom session
for staff to attend on Monday. Information below:

The Week Ahead
RECHARGE DAY – FRIDAY 10 SEPTEMBER
Lockdown 6.0 has been longer than we all anticipated, and the impact this has on our sense of choice and balance in our lives is
material. Out of recognition for this, Friday 10 September will be a designated staff recharge day. Years 7-10 academic classes will
be cancelled, and staff should use the time they get back to do what they need to, to sustain their wellbeing during lockdown.
Y7-10 Classes
7-10 students will be expected to attend their STARR class. STARR teachers should use this time to build connections and create
levity with students.
Y11-12 Classes
Due to the importance of minimising disruptions to learning for the VCE and VCAL students, all Y11 and 12 classes will continue as normal and Y11 and Y12 students are
expected to attend. If you are a Y11 & Y12 teacher, we know you are working tirelessly to ensure assessments and deadlines are met at this crucial time of the year. Therefore,
as you know your classes best, on Friday you can decide how best to run your class. You can either:
• teach all your lessons as normal
• teach part and set an activity for the remainder of the lesson
• set asynchronous work
If you need to teach all your Y11 & Y12 classes and won’t get an opportunity to recharge on Friday, please contact Alan to see how else you can be supported.
For 7-10 teachers, outside of STARR class and the cuppa with a colleague chat in the morning, what your day looks like is up to you. You may choose to spend some/all this
time for professional practice; but this is your call. As an ELT, our ask of you is that you do what will make you feel ready to take on the final week of term energised and
centred.
ELT are calling on nominations for the two staff members – one teacher and one education support staff - to represent the staff body and form the 2021/2022 LCC. Please
send your nominations through to Virginia by Thursday September 9. You can self-nominate.
Thank you to Temu Maugu and Sandra Hutchinson, as the outgoing staff representatives, for their contribution to the LCC over the past 12 months.
For more information on the experience of being on the LCC, please speak to Temu or Sandra to learn about their first-hand experience. Any remaining questions can be
directed to Emily. For more information about the consultative arrangements, you can read the formal document here.
*This is in lieu of the 2021 VGSA, which is yet to be finalised. On release of the updated VGSA, these consultative arrangements will be reviewed and amended as required.

FACILITIES UPDATE
To support our growing student cohort, we will be receiving a four-classroom, double-storey portable building to be ready for use next
year. The relocatable buildings are built to an energy efficient design, including double-glazed windows and improved thermal and
acoustic insulation. Works will start on installing the building over the coming months, and the anticipated (not confirmed) site
location is next to the current W portables.
