Last day of Term 3

The last week of Term 3 has arrived bringing three and a half days of lessons and a focus on assessment and reporting. Thursday and Friday’s parent-student-teacher conferences present an important opportunity
for teachers and parent/carers to share information about how our students have been tracking with their learning and wellbeing.

Up-to-date information about student wellbeing and learning needs and trusting relationships with parents/carers will be essential for a successful return to onsite learning next term. Use the interview time to
focus on your students’ strengths, identifying what supports they need and how parents/carers can share this work with you at home.

Teachers may wish to provide their parents with a short online survey to capture background information and drop the link into their Compass page for parents to complete prior to the interview. A template survey
can be found via this link. If you haven’t created a MS Form before, this short video explains how and the IT team can provide further assistance if needed.

Structuring the parent-teacher-student interview with an agenda might also be helpful. Here is a suggested way of structuring the interview:

a) Welcome your parent and make a positive observation or compliment about the child’s behaviour or attitude and a brief teacher introduction. (1 minute)
b) Outline the learning goals for the term and the student’s two most important achievements (2 minutes)
c) Student-led commentary on 1 pieces of work they are “proud of” and “could improve on”(2 minutes)
d) Check-in with the parent and student about their experience of remote and flexible learning. (1 minute)
e) Outline the strategies you’ve used to support the student’s learning. Name 1-2 which the parent/carer could help with at home and review . (2 minutes)
f) Parent/carer comments/questions, sign-up for more talk time at a later date, or refer to sub-school, or student support teams. (2 minutes).

Have a fantastic last week of term!

A snippet of week 9…………….

THANK YOU

A massive “THANK YOU” to Karrie and Jess White for the mammoth tasks that they managed over the past
few weeks in getting “appreciation gifts” out to more than 170 staff as well as the “encouragement gifts”
out to 140 of our Year 12 students. We appreciate the time and effort that went in to sourcing and
delivering the gifts – THANK YOU!

awareness of RUOK? Day and for the wonderful activities provided for our students

A huge shout out to Clair and all our talented staff involved in the RUOK? Video.

Check it out https://vimeo.com/599982989

Remember that it is more important than ever to continue to take a minute to check in with your
friends, loved ones and colleauges and ask them the simple but important question RUOK? We
encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with someone. One small question or conversation
could change a life 😊
Are they really ok? Ask them today

Recharge day Tayla’s Year 12 Food tech class!

Feeling recharged…….a reminder we would love to see your photo or video of your recharge activity My year 12s have completed their last SAC that required them to cook a dish and apply the content they
on Friday - please send these through to Stacey have learnt to their dish in the SAC.

It was actually really nice to see the kids

smiling and relaxing! We had some old
classic songs playing while we were cooking
and they were all dancing and cooking on
the zoom. I haven’t seen those smiles in a
while and today it was so rewarding seeing
them all be themselves again. Being a
technology subject it has been hard with
remote learning but our class can now say
we have cooked on a zoom!

Headline change: Any staff crossing in and out of metropolitan Melbourne to regional Victoria will need to get tested for COVID-19 twice a week.
• This means: Staff who live in regional Victoria who travel to school must get a COVID test twice a week. This does not apply to students.
• This starts: Now. For the period of 10 September - 17 September, the first test needs to occur within 72 hours after being at school, and then again three days after the initial test.
• Do I need to isolate after this test: No. Staff do not need to isolate following this asymptomatic test and can attend work/leave home while waiting for their test result. As has been the case throughout
the pandemic, if any staff present symptoms of COVID-19 they should not attend onsite, get tested and isolate immediately.

Consider which scenario you fit into, and act accordingly -

I’m onsite today (Sept 10) and live in regional Vic – what do I do?

• Get a test in 72 hours. Get a second test three days after that. You do not have to isolate when you wait for your results for either test (unless you have symptoms).

I’m scheduled to be onsite next week, and live in regional Vic – what do I do?

• The requirement for testing does not preclude anyone for coming onsite, and is not a reason why anyone cannot come onsite.
• If you fit into this category and come onsite next week, you need to get a test 72 hours after being onsite. Get a second test three days after that. You do not have to isolate when you wait for your results
for either test (unless you have symptoms).
• However, if you have a strong personal preference to not come onsite because of the testing requirement, talk to your Team Leader / Manager to understand if edits to the roster can be made for next
week. In some instances, changes to the roster may be possible to minimise movement between metro and regional Vic. In other instances, this won’t be possible.
• First Aid training will still occur onsite next week. If you live in regional Vic and are coming onsite for the training, you will need to get a test 72 hours after being onsite. Get a second test three days after
that. You do not have to isolate when you wait for your results for either test (unless you have symptoms).

I’m a Team Leader of a team that has one or more members onsite – what do I do?

• Talk to your team, and make sure all regional staff understand this situation. These staff may raise with you the possibility for altering next week’s roster to minimise regional staff travelling to school.
• Roster changes can be made at your discretion. If you are making changes, you must consider equity across your team. If you need any assistance or guidance about making roster changes next week,
please call me on 0429 358 742.
• NB – Teams that have one or more members onsite are – ELT, CLT, Reception, Learning Support, Casual Relief Teachers, IT, Facilities.

For everyone else –

• If you live in regional Vic and have no authorised reason to travel to school – no action needed.
• If you are onsite today or next week and live in metro Melb – no action needed.
• If you are unsure whether you are classified as living in regional Victoria or metro Melb, contact DET’s COVID hotline on 1800 338 663.
• If you are unsure what this means for all other travel needs outside of work purposes, call the DHHS COVID hotline on 1800 675 398.

Learning with iPads

In Year 9 Humanities students were required to use QR codes to explore a timeline of significate events. Students then recorded their findings into their Keynote workbook. QR codes are a great way to get students
up and moving in their classrooms.
