Hints for Note:

Introduction about LPI, Application & Limitation:

 What is flaw?
- Any discontinuity or foreign matter with in the material is called flaw.

 What is surface & subsurface flaw?

- A discontinuity which is open to the surface is called surface flaw.
- A discontinuity which is not open to the surface is called subsurface flaw.

 What is defect?
- A discontinuity which is leads the failure of the material is called defect or
A discontinuity which is beyond the acceptable limit is called defect.

 What is LPI?
- Liquid Penetrant inspection is generally used to check whether the
material free from surface defect or not.
- Porous surface not fit for LPI.
- Smooth surface required for inspection.
- All material we can inspect through LPI.

 Application of LPI.
- Weld grows checked by LPI before Welding.
- Weld joints checked by LPI.
- Machined components.
- Stainless steel vessels.

 Limitation of LPI.
- A defect must be open to the surface.
- Subsurface defect can’t detect.

Basic Principle of LPI:

 Capillary Action.
- Explain Capillary Action.

 Physical properties.
- Properties of a good Penetrant, Cleaner & Developer.

 Component of LPI.
- Describe about Penetrant, Cleaner & Developer.

 What is Penetrant?
- Describe the function of Penetrant or Dye.

 What is Cleaner?
- Describe the function of Cleaner.

 What is Developer?
- Describe the function of Developer.

 Process Description.
- Give detail explanation of LPI Process.

 Comparator Block
- Calibration of LPI.

Types of LPI & Its application:

 Types of LPI.
- Refer student hand book.

 Application & Limitation.

- Refer student hand book.

 Advantage and Disadvantage.

- Refer student hand book.
