Module Overview:
 
This module is designed to develop your competencies regarding intrapartum care. You
will be designated in Labor Room and Delivery Room/Lying-In Clinic and be assigned in
giving health teaching and nursing care that focuses on the components and process of
labor and delivery of the pregnant mother and her family. 

In addition, the character of being a Canossian Nightingale must be developed in


delivering health care to establish a compassionate environment by providing
emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to pregnant mother and her family. 
Also, the application of nursing process to plan and provide care throughout the
stages of labor is explored.

Further, this module should not substitute the actual learning experience, however,
due to Covid pandemic, this is provided to create continuous learning and meet your
learning needs.

Desired Learning Outcome: at the end of a 7-hour virtual learning exposure, you are
expected to:

Scenario: The uterine contraction is primary power in labor. As labor progresses, its
duration and intensity increase while its interval decreases.

Clinical Case:

Coleen, G5P4 is admitted to the labor unit and is active labor. Her cervix is 6
cm open, 75% effaced, presentation: cephalic; bag of waters intact (BOW +) and
station 0.
In monitoring her labor, you noted that the uterus contracted at 8 o’clock in
the morning. This contraction was mild-moderate in intensity and lasted 30 seconds.
At 8:08 am, another contraction started with mild-moderate intensity lasting for 30
seconds again.

Identify the characteristics of Coleen’s contractions.
